The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martinez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice sprawl there from Dain Jr as Martinez shoots in.
Martinez shoots for a double leg takedown but Dain Jr sprawls well. He's pushed Martinez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wilfredo Martinez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

so Dain Jr counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Martinez shoots in for a takedown but Dain Jr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Martinez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dain Jr tries to avoid it but Martinez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dain Jr to the ground. Dain Jr escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Dain Jr throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Martinez was covering up waiting for the punch and Dain Jr finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Martinez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dain Jr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martinez somewhat.

Dain Jr shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Martinez's guard.

Martinez has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Dain Jr off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Horrible takedown attempt by Martinez or perhaps it was just good defense by Dain Jr, which made it look bad.
