Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rodger Bell (ranked 3972 p4p, 405 weight class) and Jay Popotrek (ranked 5341 p4p, 477 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodger Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Popotrek!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the liver by Bell. Beautiful body shot.
Bell throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Bell tests Popotrek's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Bell.
A jab from Popotrek misses.
Popotrek takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Popotrek does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Bell ducks under a wild hook from Popotrek.
Popotrek looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Popotrek misses with a left hand
and Bell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Bell!

Popotrek takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Popotrek drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Popotrek moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Bell is trying to buck Popotrek off.
Bell is working to avoid the ground and pound but Popotrek connects with a decent elbow.
Popotrek scores with a couple of short elbows.
Popotrek has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Popotrek takes a little break here. Bell wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Popotrek lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Bell down.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bell went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Bell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Popotrek stays in close to Bell's body and controls the position.

Popotrek with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Popotrek seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Popotrek showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Bell thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Popotrek if he has to take too many more of those.
Left hook, right uppercut from Bell.
Popotrek throws a hook but Bell blocks it.
Bell thinks about countering with a head kick.
We've been told by Bell's head coaches at UnderGround Training Facility that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Popotrek throws a right and a left that Bell avoids nicely.

and Bell counters with a one-two to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Popotrek punishes Bell's body with a nice straight punch.
Popotrek throws a right and a left that both miss.
Popotrek tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bell defends well and Popotrek ends up having to push Bell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Bell is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Popotrek.
Bell moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Bell tries to bum rush Popotrek with a series of wild strikes but Popotrek uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bell scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Popotrek doesn't seem bothered though.

and Bell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Popotrek throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

and Bell counters with a left and a right that stings Popotrek.

Bell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bell wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Popotrek manages to pass to side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bell looks like he's trying to stand up.
Popotrek is nestled in close to Bell, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Bell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Popotrek can do to turn this around?

Popotrek is taking a breather. Bell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Popotrek lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Rodger Bell showed his dominance in that final round.

Rodger Bell spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
