The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and Reed Andrews.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nieves throws a sloppy head kick
and Nieves takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nieves with a poor takedown
and Chavez counters with a lovely shot to the body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Nieves.
Nieves dives in and grabs Chavez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chavez pushes down on Nieves's head and hops out.
Chavez now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Nieves wants to clinch but Chavez slips to the side
and Chavez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Chavez bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Nieves's head.

It looks like Gabrielius Nieves has been cut.
Nieves tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chavez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Nieves pushes off an throws an elbow but Chavez leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Nieves tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Chavez's elbow.
Nieves throws a knee to the head but misses.
Chavez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Chavez is trying to force a seperation but Nieves has the dominant position.
Nieves misses with a short punch on the inside.
Nieves tries to land knees in the clinch but Chavez avoids the damage to the body.
Nieves misses with a hook from the clinch.
Nieves can't find room to land a body shot as Chavez controls the action.
Chavez tries to circle away but Nieves has him pinned against the cage.
Chavez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Chavez has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Nieves seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Chavez can turn it around.
Nieves using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Chavez has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

and Chavez counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nieves wants to clinch.
Nieves shoots in looking for a takedown. Chavez tries to sprawl out of it but Nieves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chavez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chavez looks like he wants to counter punch here.

and Chavez counters with a nice right hand that sends Nieves toppling to the canvas! Nieves scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Chavez finish him?!
