PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arnoldo Sharpe (ranked 24166 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ren Morioh (ranked 4936 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arnoldo Sharpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ren Morioh!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morioh throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ren Morioh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Morioh fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sharpe sprawls well initially but Morioh persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sharpe tries to kick Morioh off in order to stand up. Morioh Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Sharpe stops Morioh from passing to mount.
Sharpe manages to get back to half guard.
Sharpe blocking the ground and pound attempt from Morioh.

Sharpe actively working from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morioh thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sharpe's head.
Morioh takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Sharpe looking for submissions off his back.
Morioh is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Morioh not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Morioh looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Sharpe is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Morioh postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Sharpe to stand up.
A combination from Morioh does no damage.

Morioh clinches with his opponent.
Sharpe struggles to land a body shot inside as Morioh controls his hands.

Morioh breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Morioh misses with a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Morioh moves into the clinch.
Sharpe slows down the pace here.

Morioh decides to pull guard.
Morioh looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Morioh trying to strike off his back.
Morioh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Morioh wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Sharpe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morioh has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sharpe has managed to get both his arms back between Morioh's legs - danger averted.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sharpe pulls out of a head kick attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sharpe enables Morioh to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sharpe manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ren Morioh dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Morioh scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Sharpe tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morioh thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Morioh looking to control and managing it successfully.
Morioh has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sharpe can't escape the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morioh can't control as he wanted to and Sharpe manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Well, if Morioh is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Sharpe makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sharpe.
Morioh seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Morioh passes Sharpe's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Morioh is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Morioh throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Morioh landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Morioh with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Morioh decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Sharpe tries to clinch there but Morioh circles away.
Ren Morioh is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Morioh clinches with his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sharpe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Morioh pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sharpe is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Morioh's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Morioh lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Morioh unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Morioh's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sharpe pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Morioh tries a head kick but it misses.

Morioh manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sharpe on his heels. He'll look to pass Sharpe's guard now, I'm sure.
Sharpe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morioh sitting in guard here, content to control.
Sharpe wants to sweep but no luck.
Morioh throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sharpe works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Morioh is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Morioh postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Morioh shoots in and gets a takedown into Sharpe's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ren Morioh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sharpe is looking to take this one to the mat.

Morioh works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Sharpe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Morioh is one step ahead there.

Morioh stands and steps away. Sharpe gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sharpe avoids the body shot from Morioh.
Morioh scores with a nice body kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Morioh drops Sharpe with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Sharpe! Morioh dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ren Morioh!
