PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Khal Stark (ranked 2112 p4p, 234 weight class) and Benz Bulver (ranked 1110 p4p, 137 weight class). Stark comes to the cage accompanied by Gardenia by KYUSS. Bulver is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Little Eagle Soars. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 26 - 2, fighting out of New York, Khal Stark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benz Bulver!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stark lands a nice shot to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bulver enables Stark to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bulver manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stark is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Touch Of Death Combat Academy that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Bulver counters with a nice uppercut.
Stark wants to clinch.
Bulver throws out a counter right but Stark avoids it with no problem.

Bulver really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stark. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Stark tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Stark is looking to take a break and control but Bulver is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Bulver felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That was a close round but I would say that Khal Stark will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The crowd cheers as Bulver lands an impressive looking overhand right. Stark doesn't seem phased though.

Bulver takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Stark takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Stark fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bulver avoids it really well and circles away.

Stark feints and as Bulver raises his hands in defense, Stark changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Stark closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bulver's guard.

Stark has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bulver throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Stark's head.

and Bulver counters with a head kick. That will keep Stark thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Bulver takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bulver seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Despite the aggression on Bulver's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Bulver walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Stark checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Stark tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bulver defends well and Stark ends up having to push Bulver into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Stark seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bulver for as long as he can get away with.

I would just about give that final round to Benz Bulver.
