The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akagi lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mejia backs up against the cage.
It looks like King Mejia has been cut.
Akagi has managed to clinch.
Mejia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Akagi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Akagi throws a right and a left that Mejia avoids nicely.
Akagi moves into the clinch successfully.
Akagi is trying to push Mejia away but Mejia has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Akagi wants to break the clinch but can't.
Mejia breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Akagi moves into range and clinches up with Mejia.
Mejia breaks from the clinch.
Akagi looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Akagi backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Mejia's temple! It sends Mejia violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Akagi celebrates and the doctors try to help Mejia!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Akemi Akagi!
