PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tsung Dao Ren (ranked 6471 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Lam Park (ranked 5198 p4p, 0 weight class). Ren's entrance music is "Welcome to the Party" (Feat. Zhavia Ward) By Diplo, French Montana & Lil P. A fine choice. Jon Lam Park will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tsung Dao Ren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Lam Park!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ren scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Park wants to get back to his feet.

Ren is trying to work for a kimura but Park is defending well.
Park on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Park blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ren.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ren is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Park doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ren.
Ren not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Park is trying to stand up here but Ren is controlling him well.
Ren is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ren works his way into full mount!
Ren tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Ren lands a heavy elbow.

Ren looking for a guillotine from mount but Park is having none of it.
Ren controlling from the full mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ren throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ren cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ren sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Ren looking to control and managing it successfully.

Ren jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Park manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Park defending against the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Park parries the strikes from Ren easily there. Ren is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Park to escape.
Ren tries to move into full mount but can't pass Park's legs.
Ren has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Park gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Ren with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Park taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tsung Dao Ren dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Ren shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tsung Dao Ren overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Park can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ren controls the pace.
Ren's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ren works over Park with some ground and pound from guard.


Park is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ren has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Park is proving hard to escape from.
Park can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ren controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ren stops Park from standing up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ren misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Park tries to clinch up but Ren circles away and keeps his distance.

Park shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ren napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Ren gets back to half guard.
Park is breathing heavily.
Ren landing rabbit punches to the side of Park's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.
Ren has his hands clasped together around Park's back. He's all about the action.
Ren is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Park can do to turn this around?

Ren looking for submissions off his back.
Ren is concentrating on defense, preventing Park from advancing position.
Further stalling from Ren.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ren gets full guard.
Park passes Ren's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Park has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Ren works to full guard.

Park is posturing up here but Ren has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Park tries to roll out but it's too tight and Park has to tap! Slick submission there by Ren!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Tsung Dao Ren!
In his post fight interview, Tsung Dao Ren started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
