The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whitehead closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. David quickly recovers to half guard.
Whitehead thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed David's head.
David is trying to control but can't.
David really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Whitehead. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Whitehead moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from David.
David dodges the ground and pound from Whitehead.
David is trying to work for a sweep but Whitehead has mounted him!
David is desperately trying to improve his position but Whitehead has a good base and remains in mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Whitehead has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
