Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Holloway (ranked 6143 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Smith (ranked 6553 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Patrick Holloway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tom Smith!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a low kick but Holloway avoids it.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Holloway in a clinch.
Holloway jumps guard but Smith turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Holloway is trying to drag Smith to the mat but Smith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Smith misses with a punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Holloway has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Smith is on him like a limpet, forcing Holloway back against the cage.
Holloway on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith pushes Holloway back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Smith decides to pull guard.

Holloway has gone for a leg lock! Smith slips out almost immediately though and dives into Holloway's guard.

Smith showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Holloway uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Smith clinches with his opponent.
Smith keeps control of Holloway as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Holloway breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Holloway slips a jab and a cross from Smith.

Holloway has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smith pulls guard effortlessly.
Holloway stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Smith pushes Holloway off and scrambles back to his feet.
Holloway tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.
Smith pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Holloway back to the cage. Smith follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.


It looks like Patrick Holloway has been cut.

Smith gets the takedown into side control.
Smith misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
You can see the frustration on Holloway's face as Smith controls the position.
Holloway is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith is trying to ground and pound but Holloway uses the momentary lack of control by Smith to regain half guard.

Smith stands up from half guard.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
Smith looks winded!

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Holloway is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Smith dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Patrick Holloway's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Smith gets a takedown into half guard.
Holloway controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Smith controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith is looking to stall here but Holloway recovers full guard.
Smith slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Holloway looking for a sweep. Not yet Holloway, not yet.
Smith is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Holloway looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Holloway working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smith.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Smith rushes Holloway and presses him up against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Holloway avoids a wild elbow strike from Smith.
Holloway is trying to break the clinch but Smith has him pressed against the cage.
Smith has Holloway pushed against the cage.

Smith works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Smith is standing up over Holloway. Holloway looks to escape but Smith dives into side control.
Smith trying to control the position but Holloway is working away.
Tom Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The strikes coming from Smith are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Holloway avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Smith.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Holloway, who protects the arm well.
Smith is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Holloway will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smith looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Holloway is avoiding damage well.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Smith wants to control for a moment but Holloway uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Smith seems to be looking for submissions.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Holloway is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smith is controlling the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Smith gets tackled into the cage by Holloway. Holloway maintains the clinch.
Come on Holloway - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Holloway avoiding damage as Smith throws knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holloway ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Holloway no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Smith wanted to stand there but Holloway had control of the position.
Smith sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith is continuing to stall.

Holloway is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Tom Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith throws a head kick but Holloway moves out of range.

Smith gets a clinch.
Holloway tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage.

Holloway takes a shot to the head.
Come on Holloway - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Smith prevents Holloway from breaking the clinch.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into Holloway's guard.
Holloway preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Holloway is keeping the position for now.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Holloway is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Smith is controlling him.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Holloway swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith stays in close to Holloway's body and controls the position.
Holloway wants to stand up but Smith is controlling him.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Smith controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smith lands with a slapping head kick.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Smith misses with an elbow over the top.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Patrick Holloway has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tom Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Holloway gets tackled into the cage by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch.

Tom Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
