PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Blood (ranked 178 p4p, 25 weight class) and Professor Xe (ranked 940 p4p, 119 weight class). Blood comes to the cage accompanied by Raining Blood - Slayer. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Blood!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Professor Xe!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Xe misses with a hook. Blood ducked under it nicely.
Blood is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Xe.
Blood looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Jack Blood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blood fails with the takedown.
Xe wants to clinch up but Blood keeps it at a distance.
Blood drops down looking for a counter takedown but Xe sprawls and moves away.

Xe looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Blood!
Blood tries to improve position but can't.

Xe is trying to get an arm triangle but Blood is defending well.
Check out the look on Xe's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blood tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Xe working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Xe lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Blood is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Xe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Xe's back!

Blood has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Xe just trying to survive but Blood is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Xe might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Blood haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Xe is in bad spot here.
Xe turns into Blood and is now in his guard.
Xe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Blood wants to sweep here but Xe controlling him for the moment.
Xe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Blood works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blood keeping moving, preventing Xe from controlling successfully.
Blood manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Xe manages to get himself to full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Blood is looking to advance position but Xe has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Xe with a couple of short strikes.
Xe lands with some strikes.
Blood tries to lock up and control but Xe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee warns Blood that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Blood is wriggling around trying to escape.
Xe looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Blood gets back to half guard.
Blood is looking for a sweep. Xe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Xe connects with a nice short shot to Blood's temple.
Xe is thwarting Blood's attempts to control the position.
Blood is staying active underneath Xe, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Xe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Xe wants to control but Blood is keeping him busy.
Xe lands strikes from half guard.
Blood regains full guard. Nicely done.
Xe makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Blood escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Xe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Xe lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Blood is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Blood keeping moving, preventing Xe from controlling successfully.
Xe pushes down on Blood's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Blood regains full guard. Nicely done.
Xe makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Blood looking to hit a scissor sweep but Xe is one step ahead there.
Xe is looking to work some ground and pound but Blood has wrist control.
Blood not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Professor Xe dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Xe works Blood's body with a nice hook.
Blood wants to clinch up but Xe keeps it at a distance.
Xe looks to land a left hand but Blood moved out of range nicely.
Blood ducks right into an uppercut from Xe.
Blood lands a lovely overhand right.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Xe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Blood somewhat.
Blood uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Xe.
Xe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Blood manages to avoid it.

Blood staying out of range there.
The fight stays on the outside here - Blood looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Xe shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Xe showed some decent athleticism there.
Blood moves into full guard.
Xe is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Xe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Xe cracks Blood with a solid left hand.
Blood looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Xe puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Xe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blood keeps working.

Blood is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Xe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Xe's back!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Blood has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Xe has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
You can see the frustration on Xe's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Xe felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Blood working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Xe is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Blood has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Xe taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jack Blood!
