PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gosha Lopez (ranked 2531 p4p, 64 weight class) and Kalis Matrovsky (ranked 2119 p4p, 55 weight class). Lopez comes to the cage accompanied by Sho Z-pod duba. Matrovsky has chosen Drop it on the one! as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gosha Lopez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kalis Matrovsky!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lopez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Matrovsky was covering up waiting for the punch and Lopez finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Matrovsky is looking to stand up but Lopez isn't so interested in that idea.
Lopez tries to free his leg and advance position but Matrovsky is retaining full guard.
Lopez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lopez stops Matrovsky from standing up.
Matrovsky is wriggling around but Lopez manages to pass to half guard.
Lopez is pressing down on Matrovsky's thigh, looking to free his foot. Matrovsky is holding on for now.

Lopez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matrovsky is defending against the submission attempts here by Lopez.
Lopez prevents Matrovsky from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Matrovsky throws a hook to the side of Lopez's head but Lopez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
It looked like Lopez was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Matrovsky.
Lopez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Lopez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Matrovsky manages to circle out of the way.
Kalis Matrovsky seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matrovsky shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Lopez eats them both and turns towards Matrovsky to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Lopez clinches up against the cage.
Lopez lands a shoulder strike.
Lopez misses with a hook to the ribs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lopez misses with the head strike.
Lopez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Matrovsky just stands there and leans against the cage.
Matrovsky has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Lopez swings wildly with an uppercut but Matrovsky uses good head movement to avoid it.
Matrovsky is pressed up against the cage. Lopez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Matrovsky down to the mat. Matrovsky avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Lopez slips a jab from Matrovsky.
Lopez is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Matrovsky.
Matrovsky misses with a hook. Lopez ducked under it nicely.
Lopez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Matrovsky.
Kalis Matrovsky is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Matrovsky misses with a wild combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matrovsky on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Lopez seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Lopez gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Matrovsky.
Matrovsky lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lopez circles away quickly and effectively.
Lopez takes a swing at Matrovsky's ribcage but misses.
Matrovsky misses with a looping left.
A punch combination from Matrovsky misses.
Lopez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Matrovsky manages to avoid it.

Lopez takes the fight into the clinch.

Lopez gets control of Matrovsky's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lopez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Matrovsky tries to stand but Lopez is controlling from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lopez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Matrovsky defends well.

Lopez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Matrovsky stands and steps away. Lopez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Lopez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Matrovsky misses with an uppercut
and Lopez counters with a straight right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lopez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Lopez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Matrovsky misses with a looping left.
Lopez moves away from the strike by Matrovsky.
Matrovsky throws a right hand that misses
and Lopez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gosha Lopez will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Lopez lands with a hook. Matrovsky tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Matrovsky misses with an uppercut. Lopez saw that one coming.
Matrovsky has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Matrovsky drops Lopez with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Lopez looks back up at him and smiles so Matrovsky waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Lopez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Matrovsky moves away.
Oh Lopez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lopez moves out of range of the strikes.
Matrovsky throws a nice looking combination but Lopez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Matrovsky might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Matrovsky looks to throw the jab but Lopez is out of range.
Matrovsky lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Lopez head around and knocks him out cold! Matrovsky hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kalis Matrovsky!
