PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Swango (ranked 676 p4p, 93 weight class) and Sam Samuelson (ranked 1087 p4p, 143 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michael Swango!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Samuelson!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Bruno Hogan and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samuelson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Swango counters with a nice uppercut.
Swango fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Swango is not content to let Samuelson control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Samuelson wants to pass to mount but Swango is defending the position.
Swango knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Samuelson on the ground.

Samuelson shoots in but Swango avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Swango leaves Samuelson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Michael Swango has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Samuelson.
Samuelson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Swango pinned against the cage. Swango gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Swango throws a big counter combination but Samuelson scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Swango is refusing to be controlled, as Samuelson sits in half guard.
Swango wants to get back to his feet.
Samuelson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Swango!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Swango is squirming around, avoiding Samuelson's attempts to control the action.

Samuelson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Swango has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Swango is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Zero Tolerance that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Samuelson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Michael Swango will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Samuelson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Swango looks to land a combination. Samuelson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Samuelson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Swango sprawls well. Swango wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Samuelson gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Swango was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Michael Swango has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Samuelson.

and Swango counters with a left and a right that stings Samuelson.

and Swango counters with a deadly accurate combination that rocks Samuelson badly! He tries to strike back but Swango puts an end to that with another precision combo that knocks Samuelson out cold! Oh man, Samuelson will never hear the end of this one!

A relieved looking Michael Swango thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
