Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scott Keene (ranked 2306 p4p, 229 weight class) and Gary Tonon (ranked 1389 p4p, 159 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Tonon's choice of entrance music: What About Now. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Keene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 26 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gary Tonon!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Albert Achterberg and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keene misses with the combination.
Keene throws out a loose jab but Tonon uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tonon closes the distance but Keene moves to the side
and Tonon takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Keene throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tonon.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Tonon has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Keene misses with a straight right.
Keene keeps the fight on the outside.
Tonon tries to clinch up
and Keene counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Tonon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Keene falls off balance throwing a combination

and Tonon counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Tonon wants to control from the top but Keene keeps moving.
Tonon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Keene is keeping the position for now.
Tonon advances position into side control!

The referee asks Tonon politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tonon prefers to stall for the moment though.
Tonon throws an elbow but Keene slips to the side and avoids it well.
Tonon tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Tonon moves into full mount!
Keene's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Tonon jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Keene is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Keene and Tonon has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tonon controls the position.
Keene knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tonon on the ground.
Keene prevents Tonon from moving into mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tonon controls the position.

Tonon looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Keene wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Tonon in side control, throwing shots but Keene defends.

You can see the frustration on Keene's face as Tonon controls the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Tonon postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Tonon lands an elbow.
Keene is not content to let Tonon control the position.
Tonon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Keene is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tonon is looking to take a break and control but Keene is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Keene. No joy for Tonon on that attempt.
Keene misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Scott Keene is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Keene will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tonon throws a series of punches but Keene moves out of range.
Keene throwing a counter right hand but Tonon manages to avoid it.
Tonon looks to land a combination but Keene avoids it well.

Tonon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Keene keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Tonon wants to take a breather but Keene is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tonon performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Tonon thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Tonon looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Scott Keene has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Tonon.
Tonon fails to land with a series of punches.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tonon.
Keene misses with a series of wild punches.
Keene lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Tonon dives in for a single leg takedown but Keene sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tonon lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Tonon.
Keene feints a jab promting Tonon to slip. Keene then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Tonon slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tonon shoots in but Keene avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Keene throws a right and a left that Tonon avoids nicely.
Tonon avoids a punch combination nicely.

Tonon closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Keene to the mat! Keene manages to get full guard.

Keene has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Tonon off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Tonon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Keene defends it nicely.
Tonon is breathing heavily.

Tonon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Keene's half guard.
Tonon is trying to control the action in half guard but Keene is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Keene has his hands clasped together around Tonon's back. He's all about the action.
Tonon stops Keene from getting back to his feet.

Keene trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Tonon wants to control but Keene is keeping him busy.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Tonon keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Tonon throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Keene tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tonon is in Keene's guard.

Keene wants to stand and escape but Tonon is having none of it.
Tonon trying to control the position from guard on top but Keene is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tonon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Keene swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tonon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Keene preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Tonon shoots in and drives through. Keene sprawls well.
Tonon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tonon shoots in looking for a takedown. Keene tries to sprawl out of it but Tonon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Keene manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Keene wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Keene swinging wildly here.
Tonon dives in for a single leg takedown but Keene sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Keene misses with a few strikes there.

Keene gets caught napping as Tonon dives in and scores a takedown. Keene manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Keene is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Tonon presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Keene's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Tonon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Keene closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Keene uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Tonon has time to react.

Tonon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Keene connects with a good right hand that stumbles Tonon. Tonon circles away out of range and recomposes himself.


Tonon is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tonon backs away from a small jab... but Keene lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Tonon crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Keene with a spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Scott Keene!
After winning the bout, Scott Keene thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
