PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Philip Farmery (ranked 1607 p4p, 202 weight class) and Mauro Carnera (ranked 2992 p4p, 308 weight class). Farmery comes to the cage accompanied by Bad Wolves-Zombie. Carnera is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bad Religion - Infected. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mauro Carnera!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carnera displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Farmery throws out the jab.
Farmery fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Carnera on the side of the head.
Carnera looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Carnera fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Farmery manages to avoid it.

Farmery misses with a hook. Carnera ducked under it nicely.

Farmery closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We've been told by Farmery's head coaches at De Santos BJJ & MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Carnera tries to move into range but Farmery moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Carnera uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Farmery.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Carnera! But no joy.
