Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Armando Tran (ranked 4929 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anak Gaul (ranked 24123 p4p, 0 weight class). Armando Tran has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Armando Tran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anak Gaul!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gaul instigates a clinch.
Gaul throws a knee to the head but misses.
Tran stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Tran effectively controlling the action here.
Tran misses with a hook to the ribs.
Tran taking a breather.
The referee calls for Tran to work.
Tran keeps control of Gaul as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gaul blocks a body shot from Tran.

Tran breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tran tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gaul swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaul misses with a takedown attempt - Tran sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It looked like Tran was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Gaul dives in for a single leg takedown but Tran sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Tran gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gaul wants to break free but Tran has control.
Tran has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Tran tries to stall but Gaul uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Tran tries to land knees in the clinch but Gaul avoids the damage to the body.

Gaul escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tran gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gaul has a closed guard, preventing Tran from standing up.

Gaul had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tran defends it easily.
Tran will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tran wants to control from the top but Gaul keeps moving.
Tran wants to stand but Gaul is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gaul rushes Tran and presses him up against the cage.
Tran has had enough of the clinch but Gaul keeps him there for the moment.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Gaul's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Tran doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tran misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Gaul.
Tran tries to stall but Gaul uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice sprawl there from Tran as Gaul shoots in.
Tran tries to close the distance and clinch but Gaul swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

As Gaul looks to move away, Tran throws a big counter combo but Gaul just gets out of the way.

Tran tries to work over Gaul's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Tran is trying to break the clinch but Gaul is controlling him.
Tran wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Tran really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gaul drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Tran dodges the punch combination from Gaul.

Gaul fails with a takedown attempt.
Tran is looking for a counter combo.
Gaul looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gaul shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tran defends it nicely.
Gaul darts in looking for a takedown but Tran gets double underhooks and turns Gaul into the cage.
Gaul is breathing heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tran misses with a hook to the ribs.
Tran misses with a punch to the body.
Gaul drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tran gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Tran looking to stall.
Tran doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Tran trying to control the position but instead, Gaul has worked for underhooks and has pushed Tran into the cage.

Gaul tries to pull guard but Tran holds him up against the cage and eventually Gaul drops back down to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Gaul counters with a straight right hand.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gaul.
Tran displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gaul.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tran gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Gaul.
Gaul shoots in for a takedown but Tran shows good takedown defense.
It looked like Tran was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Gaul throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gaul keeps the fight on the outside.
Tran fails with the takedown.
Gaul goes for a double leg but Tran avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tran continues to drive forward.
Tran is looking to counter the offense by Gaul and move into the clinch.

Gaul throws a series of punches but Tran avoids them all with ease.

Anak Gaul seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Anak Gaul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gaul takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gaul shoots and misses

and Tran holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Tran misses with a hook to the ribs.
Gaul is trying to stall.

Tran pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Tran scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tran is looking to take a break and control but Gaul is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tran looking to control but instead Gaul has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Gaul avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Tran.
Gaul is refusing to be controlled, as Tran sits in half guard.
Tran takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Gaul is defending against the submission attempts here by Tran.

Tran is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gaul manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Tran keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Tran trying to control the position but instead, Gaul has worked for underhooks and has pushed Tran into the cage.
Tran is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Tran can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

Gaul is looking to take this one to the mat.

Anak Gaul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tran has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
