PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lance King (ranked 3149 p4p, 168 weight class) and Todd Chase (ranked 5300 p4p, 238 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lance King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Todd Chase !
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chase stuffs the takedown.
King checks the leg kick.
King seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

King pushes Chase up against the cage in a clinch.
King's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
King goes for a takedown in the clinch but Chase prevents it.
King is working for takedown but Chase is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
King tries to pull guard but Chase holds him up against the cage and eventually King drops back down to his feet.

King manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chase misses with a takedown attempt - King sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Chase throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
King was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
King shoots for a takedown but Chase saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Chase dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Chase 's head and hops out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chase fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
King tries to counter by clinching up but Chase breaks away and moves out of range.

King moves into the clinch.
Chase jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as King walks away with a smile on his face. Chase gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
King shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chase but Chase pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chase tries to counter with a clinch but King shakes him off and moves away.
The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
King stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and King wants it to stay on the feet.
King is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Chase .
Chase looking to land some kicks to the body here.
It looked like King was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

King forces Chase back against the cage and clinches.

King manages to break the clinch.
Chase tries to clinch there but King circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King misses with a low kick.

Chase closes the distance and clinches.
Chase stops a takedown attempt from King.

King escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

King clinches up with Chase and pushes him back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

King breaks the clinch.

Chase drives through and clinches with King against the cage.
Chase looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

King pulls guard.
Chase wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Chase avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
King is wriggling around but Chase manages to pass to half guard.
Chase is trying to control. King wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Chase takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
It looks like Chase might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
King holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
King looks like he's trying to stand up.
King wants to control but Chase is keeping busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
King dives in and grabs Chase 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chase pushes down on King's head and hops out.
King sets himself, and Chase steps forward looking for the clinch! King avoids it this time.

King rushes Chase and presses him up against the cage.
King tries to pull guard but Chase holds him up against the cage and eventually King drops back down to his feet.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King wants to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lance King will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chase throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around King's waist but King gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chase off to one side.
A clash of legs there as King blocks the low kick.
King moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Chase instigates a clinch.

King turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Chase bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Chase tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but King paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Chase is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chase looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

King manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Chase on his heels. He'll look to pass Chase 's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chase has his foot on King's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. King works his way back into a safe position though.
King wants to get up but he can't break Chase 's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

King slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Chase .
Chase wants to get back to full guard.
King is nestled in close to Chase , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
King not doing much here.
King thows a huge punch but Chase dodges it nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chase wants to get back to full guard but King has passed into side control.
Chase is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
King stalling.
Chase has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. King is working away from the top position though.
Chase wants to improve his position but King is controlling well.

Chase moves into full guard.
King preventing the sweep.
Chase can't keep his opponent in guard - King advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
King is trying to control. Chase wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

King is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Chase is breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chase shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as King sprawls well. King wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chase gets slowly back to his feet.
King misses with a takedown
and Chase cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

King forces Chase back against the cage and clinches.
Chase gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from King.
King working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chase drops down looking for an ankle pick but King pulls his leg out and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lance King will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

King went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Lance King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chase dives in for a single leg takedown but King sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Chase keeps the fight on the outside.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chase tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chase to the ground. Chase escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
King scores with a head kick. Chase tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
King looks for a takedown but Chase sprawls well.
No luck for Chase with that takedown attempt.
No joy there for Chase , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chase stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Chase wants it to stay on the feet.
King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chase shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense.

King feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Chase is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst King is controlling him.
Lance King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
King keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Chase 's head.
Chase wants to sweep but no luck.

King passes Chase 's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Todd Chase has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lance King is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

King is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Well King has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
