Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hoyt Obrien (ranked 7407 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Briggs (ranked 4560 p4p, 391 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hoyt Obrien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Briggs!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obrien wants to clinch up but Briggs keeps it at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Briggs manages to pull guard.
Briggs looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Obrien will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Obrien looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Obrien is looking to work some ground and pound but Briggs has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Briggs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Obrien doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Obrien manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Briggs shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Obrien is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Briggs defends it well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Obrien blocks a head kick by Briggs.

Briggs closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Obrien did well to prevent Briggs getting side control.
Obrien is staying active underneath Briggs, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Still in half guard, Briggs seems content to control.
Briggs takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Obrien wants to control the action here but instead Briggs manages to pass to full mount!
Poor strikes thrown by Briggs there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Briggs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Obrien wants to hold on but Briggs pushes him away.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Briggs lands a big shot there that rocks Obrien but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Obrien manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Briggs perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Obrien postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Briggs is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Obrien, into his guard.

Briggs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Obrien is working away from the top position though.

Joe Briggs is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hoyt Obrien.
Well Briggs has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
