Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cliff Velasquez (ranked 24673 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Boy (ranked 4834 p4p, 218 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cliff Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Boy!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy misses with the combination.
Velasquez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Boy feints and as Velasquez raises his hands in defense, Boy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Boy throws a big elbow that misses.
Boy landing some decent shots from guard.
Velasquez trying to keep a closed guard but Boy is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasquez is really struggling to control Boy but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velasquez keeping moving, preventing Boy from controlling successfully.
Velasquez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Velasquez controls Boy momentarily but Boy frees himself.
Boy tries to free his leg and advance position but Velasquez is retaining full guard.
Boy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Boy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Velasquez, up you get!
Boy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Boy drives through and clinches with Velasquez against the cage.

Velasquez gets control of Boy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Velasquez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Boy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Velasquez wants to sweep here but Boy controlling him for the moment.
Boy wants to stand but Velasquez is controlling his posture from full guard.
Velasquez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boy is one step ahead there.
Velasquez can't keep his opponent in guard - Boy advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Boy throwing shots but Velasquez is blocking nicely.
Velasquez wants to get back to full guard.

Velasquez is looking to control Boy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Velasquez avoid being mounted?

Boy seems to be working for a kimura but Velasquez defends the submission attempt.
Velasquez is refusing to be controlled, as Boy sits in half guard.
Velasquez wants to control but Boy is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Velasquez is looking to improve his position.

Boy stands up out of the half guard.

Boy gets a clinch.
Boy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Velasquez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Velasquez breaks the clinch.

Boy moves into the clinch.
Velasquez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Boy after a bit of a struggle.
Boy digs a right hand underneath Velasquez's ribcage. Velasquez let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Velasquez wants a takedown.
Velasquez is breathing heavily.
Velasquez taking a breather.
Velasquez wants to take the fight to the mat but Boy manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cliff Velasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Velasquez wants to get back to striking at distance but Boy won't allow it.
Boy on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Boy jumps into guard, dragging Velasquez to the mat.

Boy keeping moving, preventing Velasquez from controlling successfully.
Boy pulls Velasquez in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Boy dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Boy clinches with his opponent.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Velasquez.
Velasquez wants a takedown but no success here.
Velasquez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Boy walks away with a smile on his face. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Boy throws a low kick but Velasquez moves out of range easily.

Boy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Velasquez, pushing him back against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Boy has Velasquez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Boy pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Velasquez tumbling to the mat - Boy dives into Velasquez's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boy content to stall in guard here.

Velasquez trying to control the position.
Boy throws an elbow that misses. Velasquez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Boy's guard. Nice move by Velasquez!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Boy holds on and takes a little breather.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Boy keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Boy throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Velasquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Velasquez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Velasquez has managed to get both his arms back between Boy's legs - danger averted.

Boy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Boy has Velasquez up against the cage in a clinch.
Boy goes for a takedown attempt but Velasquez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Velasquez tries to keep at a distance but Boy has taken the fight into the clinch.

Velasquez is trying to drag Boy to the mat but Boy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jon Boy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Boy lands a two punch combo.
Nice takedown defense from Velasquez. No joy for Boy on that attempt.
Boy swats away the attempt to clinch by Velasquez.
Boy shoots in for a takedown but Velasquez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Boy forces Velasquez back against the cage and clinches.
Boy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Velasquez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Boy is pressed up against the cage. Velasquez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Boy down to the mat. Boy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Velasquez doesn't manage to clinch there - Boy circles away.
Boy lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Boy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Velasquez defends it nicely.
Velasquez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Boy manages to circle out of the way.
Cliff Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Boy.

Velasquez slaps away a takedown attempt from Boy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Boy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fight stays on the outside here - Velasquez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A little jabbing left from Boy on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Boy rushes Velasquez and presses him up against the cage.
Velasquez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Boy pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Velasquez jumps into guard, dragging Boy to the mat.

Velasquez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Velasquez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Velasquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boy keeps working.
Velasquez blocks the strikes from Boy.
Boy tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Velasquez has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Boy is trying desperately to improve position.

Boy wants to hold on but Velasquez pushes him away.
Boy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Velasquez looking to control but Boy is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Boy is wriggling around trying to escape.

Cliff Velasquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Boy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Boy sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cliff Velasquez.
Well Boy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
