PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Great Tiger (ranked 484 p4p, 60 weight class) and Mickey Munday (ranked 833 p4p, 100 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Great Tiger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mickey Munday!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Munday looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Munday looks for a takedown but Tiger sprawls well.
Tiger ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Munday moves away.
Tiger throws a shot to the body.

Tiger gets a clinch.
Tiger blocking some punches.
Tiger lands a right hand.
Munday throws a head punch that misses.
Munday blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Tiger lands with a short shot to the head.

Tiger manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tiger connects with a nice looking jab.
Munday gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Munday shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tiger napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Munday is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tiger knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Tiger tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee asks Munday politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Munday prefers to stall for the moment though.

Munday goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Tiger rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Munday's guard! Nice work there by Tiger!

Tiger wants to pass the guard but Munday is keeping the position.

Munday has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Munday can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tiger controls the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Munday closes the distance and clinches up with Tiger, looking for a takedown. Munday pushes Tiger against the cage but Tiger circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Great Tiger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mickey Munday.

Tiger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Munday stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tiger.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Munday connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Tiger pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tiger is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A right-left combo lands from Tiger.
A head kick from Tiger lands but Munday takes it in his stride.
Munday scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tiger in his tracks.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Tiger, right into the meat.
Tiger shoots for a double leg takedown but Munday sprawls well. He's pushed Tiger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A countering left hand to the body from Munday misses.
Tiger connects with a solid leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Great Tiger dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Tiger fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Munday manages to avoid it.
Munday cracks Tiger with a right hand to the side of the head.
Munday takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Tiger moves in looking to clinch but Munday pushes him off.

Tiger uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Munday.
Munday has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Munday takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Tiger lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Tiger moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Tiger gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Munday keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Munday throws a hook but Tiger blocks it.
Tiger on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Tiger throws a hook to the side of Munday's head but Munday sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Munday sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tiger's guard.

Munday passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Munday tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Munday has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Tiger is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at JAG Battle Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Tiger is trying to get back to half guard.
Tiger sneaks back into half guard.
Tiger manages to get to full guard.
Munday stands and throws Tiger's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Great Tiger will probably get the nod.
That's time! Tiger's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Tiger tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Munday was well out of range. Poor timing from Tiger.

and Tiger counters with a nice low kick that buckles Munday's knee momentarily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Tiger can't find room to land a body shot as Munday controls the action.

Munday cracks Tiger with an open hand slap.

Munday steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tiger. That one must have hurt.
Tiger drops his hands momentarily and Munday takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Tiger connects with a solid leg kick.
Munday bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Tiger's head backwards.
Munday lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Munday shoots in but no luck this time.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Munday shoots in for a takedown but Tiger shows good takedown defense.
Munday takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Tiger catches Munday with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Munday takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Munday takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Tiger throws a leg kick which misses Munday's front leg but catches the back leg as Munday tries to avoid it.
Munday jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tiger throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Tiger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Munday on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Tiger thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Munday if he has to take too many more of those.
Munday's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Munday takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Tiger lands a jab to the head.


Munday is rocked!

BOOM! Tiger lands a beautiful left hook that drops Munday. Munday tries to recover but Tiger is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Munday lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Great Tiger!
An out of breath Great Tiger thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
