Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darius Witt (ranked 24064 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lionel De Veas (ranked 4962 p4p, 0 weight class). De Veas has chosen Dizzy Wright - East Side as his entrance music. Lionel De Veas has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Darius Witt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lionel De Veas!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Veas fails to land the takedown.

Witt gets tackled into the cage by De Veas. De Veas maintains the clinch.
Witt wants to take the fight to the mat but De Veas manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Witt has a couple of punches blocked by De Veas.

Witt breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

De Veas rushes Witt and presses him up against the cage.

Witt manages to pull guard.
De Veas wants to stand and escape but instead Witt has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Witt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

De Veas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

De Veas is looking to stand back up but Witt counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by De Veas.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De Veas is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

De Veas is defending against the submission attempts here by Witt.
De Veas has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA St Petersburg. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
De Veas should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

De Veas has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Witt is on him like a limpet, forcing De Veas back against the cage.

De Veas blocks the elbow strike.

De Veas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

De Veas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Witt, pushing him back against the cage.

De Veas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Witt lands a body shot in the clinch.
Witt tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. De Veas smiles and moves away.
Witt leaves De Veas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
De Veas fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Witt checks it well.

Witt gets caught napping as De Veas dives in and scores a takedown. Witt manages to retain guard.
De Veas looks winded!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Witt wants to stand and escape but De Veas is having none of it.

De Veas decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

De Veas rushes Witt and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Witt tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darius Witt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Witt has De Veas pressed against the cage, preventing De Veas from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

A frustrated look appears on Witt's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Witt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown attempt by De Veas or perhaps it was just good defense by Witt, which made it look bad.

and Witt counters with a nice body shot.

Witt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
De Veas scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Witt manages to mount him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Darius Witt will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

De Veas moves into range and clinches up with Witt.
De Veas is pressed up against the cage. Witt has hold of a leg and is looking to drag De Veas down to the mat. De Veas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
De Veas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Witt avoids it really well and circles away.
Witt tries to counter by clinching up but De Veas breaks away and moves out of range.

De Veas is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Witt dives into side control.

De Veas pushes Witt away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Witt gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Lionel De Veas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Witt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
