PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dillon Wallace (ranked 4910 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marquis Hyman (ranked 5071 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dillon Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marquis Hyman!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Hyman.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hyman.
Hyman misses with the combination.
Hyman tries for a takedown but Wallace sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hyman connects with a single shot there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hyman throws a series of strikes that have Wallace backpedaling.
Wallace stuffs the takedown.
Dillon Wallace has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marquis Hyman.
No luck for Wallace with that takedown attempt.

Hyman moves into the clinch.

Wallace breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Hyman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wallace on his heels. He'll look to pass Wallace's guard now, I'm sure.

Wallace working for submissions but it's allowed Hyman to get to half guard.
Hyman takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Hyman throwing shots but Wallace is blocking nicely.

Wallace looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Hyman pushes past his half guard into mount!
Wallace is squirming around, avoiding Hyman's attempts to control the action.
Hyman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Wallace holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hyman tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Wallace is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Wallace is trying desperately to improve position.

Hyman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wallace is looking to escape.
Wallace really wants to buck Hyman off and get back to his feet.
Hyman thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wallace bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hyman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wallace throws a big elbow that misses.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hyman keeping moving, preventing Wallace from controlling successfully.
Wallace loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marquis Hyman dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wallace fails to land the takedown.
Hyman lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Wallace at a distance.
Hyman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wallace misses the body punch
and Hyman counters with a right hand to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hyman forces Wallace back against the cage and clinches.
Wallace really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hyman is trying to break the clinch but Wallace has him pressed against the cage.

Wallace fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Wallace tries to pull guard but Hyman forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dillon Wallace. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hyman tries to circle away but Wallace has him pinned against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Wallace just misses with a elbow thrown towards Hyman's brow.
Wallace tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hyman smiles and moves away.
Wallace slaps away a takedown attempt from Hyman, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hyman scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Hyman has taken the fight to the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Hyman's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Wallace escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A shot to the liver by Hyman. Beautiful body shot.
Hyman lands a nice hook to Wallace's body. Wallace takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Wallace takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hyman is defended easily by Wallace.
Wallace tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Hyman manages to circle out of the way.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hyman lands a body shot.
Hyman fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hyman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wallace avoids it really well and circles away.
Hyman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wallace is fending him off so far but Hyman persists. Nope, Wallace circles away and we're back to standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hyman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hyman has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marquis Hyman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Hyman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Wallace seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Hyman gets a clinch.
Wallace tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hyman smiles and moves away.
Hyman misses with a leg kick

and Wallace counters with a takedown into side control.

Wallace thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wallace is looking to take a break and control but Hyman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wallace sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Hyman is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Hyman is trying to improve his position.
Wallace lands some shots froms side control.
Wallace is chipping away with strikes.
Wallace wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hyman keeps working.

Wallace is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hyman has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hyman takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hyman is looking to reverse the position.
Wallace lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hyman is trying to improve his position.
Hyman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wallace swings around for an armbar but Hyman sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Wallace's guard.
Hyman stays in close to Wallace's body and controls the position.

Hyman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wallace has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hyman has managed to get both his arms back between Wallace's legs - danger averted.
Wallace thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Wallace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wallace wants to stand but Hyman is controlling the position.
Hyman throwing strikes from guard but Wallace blocks nicely.

Wallace looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hyman has picked Wallace up and slammed him! Wallace can't keep hold of the triangle and Hyman manages to pass to side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hyman remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Wallace is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hyman off and has taken his back!
Wallace throws a series of strikes and Hyman wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.
Wallace looking to ground and pound but Hyman is blocking nicely.
Wallace punching from mount but Hyman doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Wallace breaks from Hyman's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Hyman wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Wallace.
Wallace thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Hyman slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Wallace is looking for a kimura here.

Wallace is working for a kimura but Hyman is defending it quite comfortably.
Wallace is nestled in close to Hyman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dillon Wallace showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hyman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
