PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jared Morgan (ranked 6793 p4p, 291 weight class) and Joe Hooks (ranked 5149 p4p, 258 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jared Morgan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jared Morgan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jared Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Hooks!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morgan has a takedown stuffed.
Morgan shoots in for a takedown but Hooks shows good takedown defense.
As Morgan backs off Hooks throws a huge counter combo but Morgan manages to avoid it all.
Nice takedown defense from Morgan. No joy for Hooks on that attempt.
Hooks is looking to clinch.
Morgan shoots and misses
and Hooks counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jared Morgan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hooks keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hooks throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Jared Morgan has been cut.
Hooks is looking to clinch but Morgan is avoiding it.
Morgan shoots and misses
and Hooks counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Morgan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hooks's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Morgan's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Morgan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hooks tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Morgan is in close to Hooks's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morgan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Morgan throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Morgan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hooks avoids it really well and circles away.
Jared Morgan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Morgan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hooks fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Morgan shoots in for a takedown but Hooks shows good takedown defense.
Hooks shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Hooks counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Morgan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hooks pushes Morgan off but Morgan dives into side control.
Check out the look on Morgan's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Morgan takes a little break here. Hooks wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Hooks wants to get back to his feet.
Morgan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Morgan has control of an arm but Hooks manages to advance to Morgan's back!
Morgan tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Morgan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Morgan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hooks stops Morgan from getting back to his feet.
Morgan is positioning himself well to prevent Hooks advancing to mount.

Morgan regains full guard. Nicely done.
Morgan wants to stand but Hooks is controlling the position.
Hooks being controlled here momentarily.

Hooks lying in Morgan's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Morgan decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Hooks taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jared Morgan!
