PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luka Nekrasov (ranked 5351 p4p, 480 weight class) and Alex Swain (ranked 4999 p4p, 231 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luka Nekrasov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Swain!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Swain closes the distance and pushes Nekrasov back into the cage.
Nekrasov tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Swain avoids it.
Nekrasov jumps guard but Swain turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Swain prevents the takedown attempt.
Swain prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luka Nekrasov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nekrasov tries to pull guard but Swain forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Swain tries a knee to the head but Nekrasov blocks it.
Swain jumps guard but Nekrasov stands there with Swain around his waist. Swain gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Nekrasov looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Swain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Swain shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nekrasov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Swain must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Nekrasov controls Swain momentarily but Swain frees himself.

Swain controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Nekrasov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Swain is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nekrasov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Swain pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nekrasov is keeping the position for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Swain stands and steps away. Nekrasov gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Nekrasov tries to clinch up but Swain circles away and keeps his distance.
Swain fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nekrasov shoots in and drives through. Swain sprawls well.

Swain instigates a clinch.
Swain trying to land knees to the body.

Swain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nekrasov tries to sprawl but Swain drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Nekrasov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Swain is working away from the top position though.
Swain tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nekrasov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Nekrasov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Swain's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Swain's back!
Nekrasov is looking to control Swain but Swain is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Nekrasov struggling to land strikes to the head as Swain covers up.

Nekrasov wants to control but Swain is keeping busy.

Swain manages to stand up with Nekrasov still on his back. Eventually Nekrasov drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
Swain shoots for a takedown but Nekrasov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Swain connects with a body shot that sends Nekrasov's belly button to the back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nekrasov takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Nekrasov closes the distance and clinches up with Swain, looking for a takedown. Nekrasov pushes Swain against the cage but Swain circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nekrasov is breathing heavily.

Swain shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Swain pushing down on Nekrasov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Swain really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nekrasov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Swain content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Swain dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Swain fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nekrasov to the ground. Swain is now in Nekrasov's guard.
Nekrasov is looking to stand back up but Swain counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Nekrasov.

Nekrasov manages to get to full guard.
Swain controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nekrasov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nekrasov controls Swain momentarily but Swain frees himself.
Alex Swain has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nekrasov tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Swain wants to pass the guard but Nekrasov is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nekrasov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Swain gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Swain stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Swain wants it to stay on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nekrasov gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Swain to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Swain working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nekrasov's head.
Swain controlling from the top position.
Nekrasov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Swain is one step ahead there.

Swain wants to pass the guard but Nekrasov is keeping the position.
Nekrasov has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Swain stands up over Nekrasov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Swain is stalling in the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Swain gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A frustrated look appears on Nekrasov's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Swain is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nekrasov pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Swain tries to pull guard but Nekrasov won't allow it.

Nekrasov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Swain is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nekrasov to the mat. Nekrasov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Swain throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nekrasov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Swain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Nekrasov throws a right and a left that Swain avoids nicely.
Nekrasov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Swain's waist but Swain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nekrasov off to one side.
Swain wants to counter with a clinch but Nekrasov pushes him away.
No joy there for Nekrasov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Swain clinches up with Nekrasov and pushes him back against the cage.
Swain tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Nekrasov just stands there and leans against the cage.
Swain tries to land knees in the clinch but Nekrasov avoids the damage to the body.

Swain breaks the clinch.
Nekrasov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Swain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nekrasov somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Swain feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Nekrasov kicks Swain off and gets to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A head kick from Swain lands but Nekrasov takes it in his stride.

Swain scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Nekrasov wants to get back to his feet but Swain is dominant here and he's now got Nekrasov's back!
Swain is not going to allow Nekrasov to sit and survive in this position.
Swain is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Swain is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Nekrasov tries to break free.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nekrasov covering up well under a series of strikes from Swain.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nekrasov is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Nekrasov just trying to survive but Swain is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Swain biding his time, looking for the opening.

Swain looking to break Nekrasov's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Nekrasov remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Swain will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Swain keeps control of the position as Nekrasov tries to break free.
Nekrasov rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Nekrasov trying to get back to full guard but Swain takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Swain looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Swain prevents Nekrasov from getting the reversal.

Swain goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Nekrasov turns into him and now he's in Swain's guard.
Nekrasov is fighting to break Swain's control of his arms but Swain is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Alex Swain.
Well Swain has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
