PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zane Lyons (ranked 7416 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Bruckner (ranked 4278 p4p, 426 weight class). Bruckner has chosen AC DC Dynamite as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Zane Lyons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josh Bruckner!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bruckner clinches up with Lyons and pushes him back against the cage.
Bruckner managing to block the knees to the body from Lyons.

Bruckner turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Lyons manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Lyons is looking for a sweep. Bruckner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bruckner is trying to control the action in half guard but Lyons is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Lyons tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Bruckner slows the pace down in half guard.

Lyons tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bruckner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lyons somewhat.

Bruckner clinches up with Lyons and pushes him back against the cage.
Lyons throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Bruckner wants to stall.

Bruckner ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bruckner no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lyons does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Lyons scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Lyons has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lyons goes for a double leg but Bruckner avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bruckner continues to drive forward.

Bruckner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Josh Bruckner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Lyons decides to stand back up. Lyons steps back and let's Bruckner get back to his feet.

I would just about give that final round to Josh Bruckner.
Well Bruckner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A determined Josh Bruckner didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
