PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gold Man (ranked 23717 p4p, 299 weight class) and Mark Callus (ranked 24385 p4p, 302 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gold Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Callus!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Callus has taken the fight to the clinch.
Man is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Callus is defending well for now.
Man misses with the head strike.
Man could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Man blocks a body shot from Callus.

Callus successfully pulls guard.
Callus wants to stand but Man is controlling the position.

Callus uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Callus has Man up against the cage in a clinch.

Callus gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Man regains guard.
Man is trying to control the position but Callus postures up.

Callus gets to his feet - Man follows without any prompting.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Man is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Callus clinches up against the cage.

Callus tries to land knees in the clinch but Man avoids the damage to the body.

Man jumps guard.

Callus gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Man throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Callus gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Callus as Man tries to tie him up.
Man looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Callus manages to pull guard.
Callus is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Man trying to control the position from guard on top but Callus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Man might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Callus pushes Man off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
We've been informed that Callus has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Callus closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Man quickly recovers to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Man works his way to full guard. Good work.
Callus won't allow Man to sweep him here.

Callus stands up and waves to Man to follow him.

Callus bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Callus stands up.
Man dives in and grabs Callus's left leg, looking for a takedown. Callus pushes down on Man's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Callus dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Man tries to close the distance and clinch up but Callus swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Callus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Callus wants it to stay on the feet.

Man misses with a hook to the ribs.
Man is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Man is trying to pull guard but Callus turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Callus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nice sprawl there from Callus as Man shoots in.
Callus wants to counter the offense by Man and move into the clinch position.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gold Man. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Man misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Callus rushes Man and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Callus escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Callus has taken the fight to the clinch.

Callus has Man pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Callus pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Man tumbling to the mat - Callus dives into Man's guard.

Callus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Man, up you get!
Man has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Callus finds it's way round the side to connect with Man's head.

Callus moves into the clinch successfully.
Callus landing knees to the body.
Man is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Callus effectively controlling the action here.
Callus gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Man.
Callus misses with a hook to the ribs.

Man is trying to pull guard but Callus has him pressed against the cage.
Callus lands with a short shot to the head.
Man is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Come on Callus - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Callus decides to pull guard.
Mark Callus has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Man won't allow Callus to get back to his feet.
Man working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Callus has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Man is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Callus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Callus darts in and clinches Man up against the cage.
A hook to the body from Callus.
Man has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Callus avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Callus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Callus closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Man quickly recovers to half guard.

Callus stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Man shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Callus as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gold Man. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Callus shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Man is trying to defend but Callus finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Callus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Man. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Callus fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Man, pushing him back against the cage.

Man tries to pull guard but Callus forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Callus breaks from the clinch.
Man lands with an uppercut that bounces Callus off the cage and back into range.

Callus forces Man back against the cage and clinches.
A hook to the body from Callus.
Mark Callus seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Callus utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Callus drags the fight down to the ground.

Callus wriggles free and stands up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Man has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Callus rushes Man and presses him up against the cage.
Man has Callus pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Callus manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Man is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Callus pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Callus lands a good knee to the midsection. Man won't want to take too many of those.

Callus lands an elbow inside that Man shrugs off.
Callus lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Man or not.

Callus ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Callus no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Callus manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gold Man has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mark Callus is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Man fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Callus lands a damaging elbow.

Mark Callus comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Callus has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
