PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Binetti (ranked 4348 p4p, 321 weight class) and CP Schlatter (ranked 6171 p4p, 364 weight class). Jonathan Binetti had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 146.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathan Binetti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, CP Schlatter!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Binetti looks to throw a body kick

and Schlatter counters with a takedown into side control.
Schlatter landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Schlatter misses with the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schlatter tries to advance to mount but can't.
You can see the frustration on Binetti's face as Schlatter controls the position.
Schlatter throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Binetti tries to bench press Schlatter off him but Schlatter keeps the position.

Schlatter is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Binetti will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Binetti seems a little lost for a moment, as Schlatter dominates the positioning.
Schlatter is trying to ground and pound but Binetti uses the momentary lack of control by Schlatter to regain half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Schlatter in particular looking to stall.
Schlatter wants to free his trapped foot but Binetti is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Schlatter wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Binetti is now in half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Schlatter can do anything to dispel that myth.
Schlatter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Schlatter preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Binetti wants to clinch up but Schlatter keeps it at a distance.

Schlatter gets tackled into the cage by Binetti. Binetti maintains the clinch.
Binetti fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Still in the clinch, Binetti scores with a nice short uppercut.
Schlatter is working for takedown but Binetti is calmly controlling the position for now.

Schlatter has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Binetti uses from the top position.

You can see the frustration on Schlatter's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Schlatter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Binetti circles away.

Schlatter has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Binetti avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Binetti shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Schlatter eats them both and turns towards Binetti to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Schlatter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Schlatter throws a strike but Binetti rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Schlatter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Binetti can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Schlatter seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Binetti is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
