PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hobert Butler (ranked 24876 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Dregan (ranked 4089 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hobert Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ronald Dregan!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dregan gets a clinch.
Butler is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dregan is defending well for now.

Dregan darts in and clinches Butler up against the cage.

Dregan lands a hook that snaps the head of Butler backwards.

Dregan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Butler is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dregan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Butler.

Dregan has a hand on Butler's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Butler takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dregan is squirming around, avoiding Butler's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dregan is still trying to improve position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dregan can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Butler has hold of Dregan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Dregan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Dregan is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hobert Butler will probably get the nod.

Butler gets tackled into the cage by Dregan. Dregan maintains the clinch.
We've been informed that Dregan has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Butler tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Butler tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Butler tries to pull guard but Dregan holds him up against the cage and eventually Butler drops back down to his feet.

Butler ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Butler no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Dregan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dregan holds on and takes a little breather.

Dregan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Butler is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dregan.

Butler has gone for a leg lock! Dregan slips out almost immediately though and dives into Butler's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Dregan content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Dregan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Butler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dregan stands and throws Butler's legs to the side, diving into side control.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Butler is on top in guard.


Dregan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

and Dregan counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Butler!

Dregan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Butler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Butler lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Butler is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dregan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dregan has escaped and now he's on top!

Butler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Dregan manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Butler keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Dregan is trying to trip Butler. He has hold of a leg but Butler is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Dregan persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Butler is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Dregan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Butler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dregan has managed to get both his arms back between Butler's legs - danger averted.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hobert Butler.
I think Butler has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
