PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Paul Carp (ranked 824 p4p, 117 weight class) and Anton Shibaev (ranked 1283 p4p, 177 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jon Paul Carp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Shibaev!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carp on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Carp is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Shibaev blocks a head kick by Carp.
Carp walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shibaev checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Shibaev connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Carp scores with a decent looking hook.

Carp tries to counter by clinching up but Shibaev breaks away and moves out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shibaev looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carp with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Carp wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Shibaev is now in half guard.
Carp is looking to control Shibaev's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carp avoid being mounted?

Shibaev got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carp has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shibaev has managed to get both his arms back between Carp's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carp is controlling Shibaev's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Shibaev throws a looping overhand right but Carp ducks down to avoid it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Carp lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shibaev has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shibaev and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Carp takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Carp tries to clinch up but Shibaev circles away and keeps his distance.

Carp tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shibaev was well out of range. Poor timing from Carp.

I think Shibaev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
