The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Dio as he connects with a hook.
Dio scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

It looks like Lee Van Cleefe has been cut.
Dio lands a two punch combo.
Dio feints a jab promting Van Cleefe to slip. Dio then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Van Cleefe slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Dio drives through and clinches with Van Cleefe against the cage.
Van Cleefe creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Dio lands a body punch in the clinch.

Dio breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dio feints a jab promting Van Cleefe to slip. Dio then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Van Cleefe slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Dio has managed to clinch.

Dio's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've been hearing reports that Van Cleefe has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Dio checks a low kick from Van Cleefe.
Dio throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Van Cleefe on the side of the head.
Dio lands a nice hook to Van Cleefe's body. Van Cleefe takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Dio fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Van Cleefe sprawls well initially but Dio persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Dio moves into full mount! Van Cleefe won't be happy about that!

Dio unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Van Cleefe wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Dio celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
