PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Uri Gellar (ranked 2708 p4p, 289 weight class) and Akkan Kubilay (ranked 2983 p4p, 0 weight class). Gellar comes into the arena with James Randi exposes Uri Geller blaring out of the sound system. Akkan Kubilay looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Uri Gellar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Akkan Kubilay!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gellar cracks Kubilay with an open hand slap.
Gellar jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Gellar throws a nice outside leg kick.
Gellar connects with a crisp jab.
Gellar gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Kubilay counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gellar won't be happy with that.
Kubilay trying to control the position but Gellar is working away.

Gellar is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Gellar can't do much from the bottom here.
Gellar stops Kubilay from passing to mount.

Kubilay has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gellar!

Kubilay jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Gellar is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Gellar and Kubilay has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
You can see the frustration on Gellar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gellar is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kubilay tries for a kimura but Gellar is defending well.
Gellar is looking to reverse the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gellar prevents Kubilay from improving position.
Kubilay passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Gellar!

Kubilay is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gellar has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gellar is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kubilay jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Gellar manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Kubilay wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gellar, who protects the arm well.
Gellar tries to bench press Kubilay off him but Kubilay keeps the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gellar is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kubilay's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Kubilay not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gellar manages to get to full guard.
Gellar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kubilay prevents Gellar from getting back to his feet.
Kubilay works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Gellar works his way to full guard. Good work.

Kubilay got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gellar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kubilay has managed to get both his arms back between Gellar's legs - danger averted.
Kubilay wants to pass the guard but Gellar is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kubilay avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kubilay tries to free his leg and advance position but Gellar is retaining full guard.
Kubilay is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Gellar wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gellar looking for a sweep. Not yet Gellar, not yet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kubilay trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gellar pulls Kubilay in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Akkan Kubilay will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gellar connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gellar throws a leg kick but Kubilay sees it coming and moves out of range.
Gellar lands with a slapping head kick.
Kubilay on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Gellar gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gellar lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kubilay tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Gellar lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.


Kubilay is rocked!
Gellar misses with a short punch on the inside.
Kubilay is still on wobbly legs! Can Gellar finish him?
Gellar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kubilay can do to turn this around?
Kubilay blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Gellar throws a head punch that misses.

Gellar tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Gellar swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kubilay blocks an uppercut.
Kubilay blocking some punches.
Gellar throws a head punch that misses.
Kubilay seems to have recovered his senses.
Kubilay tries to pull guard but Gellar won't allow it.
Gellar creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Kubilay's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Kubilay drops to his knees and Gellar pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Uri Gellar!
Our winner, Uri Gellar, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
