PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ellis Diaz (ranked 7141 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Dregan (ranked 3918 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ellis Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ronald Dregan!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dregan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Diaz scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Dregan manages to mount him!
Dregan looking to control and managing it successfully.
Diaz is wriggling around trying to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dregan controlling from mount.
Dregan cracks Diaz with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Dregan content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Diaz pushes Dregan off looking to stand but Dregan dives back in and keeps control.

Dregan moves nicely into side control.
A lull in the action here as Dregan stalls from top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Diaz is trying to get back to half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dregan advances nicely into full mount.
Dregan throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Diaz is breathing heavily.
Dregan controlling his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dregan throws some wild stikes that Diaz manages to avoid easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Diaz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Diaz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dregan circles away.
Dregan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Diaz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dregan to keep the fight standing.
Diaz tries to pull guard but Dregan holds him up against the cage and eventually Diaz drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ellis Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dregan turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Dregan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Diaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dregan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Let's hope that Dregan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Dregan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz wants to control but Dregan postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dregan rushes Diaz and presses him up against the cage.
Dregan effectively controlling the action here.
Diaz avoids the elbow strike from Dregan, against the cage.
Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dregan smiles and moves away.
Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown but Dregan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Diaz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Diaz fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Dregan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Diaz scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Dregan manages to mount him!

Dregan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Dregan controlling from the full mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronald Dregan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dregan avoids it really well and circles away.

Dregan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Dregan blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Dregan misses with a body punch.

Dregan can't find room to land a body shot as Diaz controls the action.
Diaz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dregan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Dregan tightens his grip and picks Diaz up, before dumping him to the ground. Diaz manages to land in guard.
Dregan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dregan postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dregan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Dregan content to stall in guard here.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Dregan is continuing to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dregan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dregan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Diaz throws a head kick that misses

and Dregan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dregan.
Diaz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dregan to keep the fight standing.

Ronald Dregan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dregan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
