PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Renaldo Sargent (ranked 4662 p4p, 0 weight class) and Habib Mcgregor (ranked 4660 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcgregor has chosen Rammstein - Deutschland as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Renaldo Sargent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Habib Mcgregor!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sargent pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Mcgregor closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mcgregor throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Mcgregor can't get the takedown.

Sargent wants the takedown. Mcgregor is fighting it off but Sargent persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mcgregor's guard against the cage.
Mcgregor striking off his back but it's not causing Sargent any problems.
Sargent wanted to stand there but Mcgregor had control of the position.
Sargent is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sargent shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcgregor's guard.

Mcgregor controls Sargent momentarily but Sargent frees himself.
Sargent lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Mcgregor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sargent can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sargent could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Sargent postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sargent slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sargent's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mcgregor shoots in and drives through. Sargent sprawls well.

Sargent shoots for a takedown but Mcgregor saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Renaldo Sargent has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Habib Mcgregor.
Sargent shoots in for a double leg but Mcgregor sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Sargent shoots in and bounces Mcgregor off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sargent postures up and lands a big shot to Mcgregor's brow.
Sargent is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sargent stands up over Mcgregor, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Sargent changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mcgregor tries to avoid it but Sargent manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mcgregor to the ground. Mcgregor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sargent throws a series of punches but Mcgregor avoids them all with ease.
Mcgregor wants to counter the offense by Sargent and move into the clinch position.

Mcgregor tries to break the clinch but Sargent is controlling the position.
Sargent scores with a shot to the side of Mcgregor's head.
Mcgregor is trying to push Sargent away but Sargent has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Mcgregor prevents the takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sargent jumps guard but Mcgregor turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Mcgregor jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sargent walks away with a smile on his face. Mcgregor gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Sargent's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mcgregor tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sargent defends well and Mcgregor ends up having to push Sargent into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sargent throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Sargent tries for a takedown but Mcgregor manages to get underhooks.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sargent creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Mcgregor shoots in for a takedown but Sargent shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Sargent scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sargent looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mcgregor with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sargent connects with a nice short shot to Mcgregor's temple.

Sargent is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mcgregor has managed to free his arm - good work.
Sargent takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sargent in particular looking to stall.
Mcgregor wants to improve his position but Sargent is controlling well.
Renaldo Sargent overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sargent has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Mcgregor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sargent throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mcgregor on the side of the head.
Mcgregor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sargent throws a wild body kick that Mcgregor sees coming a mile off.
Sargent pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sargent jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mcgregor walks away with a smile on his face. Sargent gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Sargent misses with a takedown attempt - Mcgregor sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Renaldo Sargent is winning the standup battle so far.
Mcgregor will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mcgregor shoots for a double leg takedown but Sargent sprawls well. He's pushed Mcgregor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sargent gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sargent pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Sargent breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Sargent closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mcgregor's guard.

Sargent connects with a couple of short punches.

Mcgregor has momentary wrist control but Sargent slips an elbow through the middle.

Well Sargent has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
