The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simpson tries for a takedown but Payne sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Simpson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Payne looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Simpson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Simpson swings around for an armbar but Payne sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Simpson's guard.

Simpson is looking for a triangle but Payne pushes his legs off easily.

Simpson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Payne can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
