Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aapeli Vipunen (ranked 1002 p4p, 126 weight class) and Scott John (ranked 268 p4p, 42 weight class). Vipunen comes to the cage accompanied by Solonen ft. Kosola - LÄSKI!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Scott John!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vipunen moves away.
John throws a big shot that misses.
Nice defenses there by Vipunen.
Vipunen throws an overhand right that lands on John's shoulder, as John tries to avoid the shot.
Vipunen lands with a hook. John tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
John throws a low kick but it's checked well by Vipunen.
Vipunen lands with a nice body punch.
Aapeli Vipunen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
John walks into a jab.
John scores with a jab. Vipunen acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


It looks like Aapeli Vipunen has been cut.
John ducks under a wild hook from Vipunen.
Vipunen throws a push kick but John slaps the foot to one side.
An inside leg kick from John misses.
Vipunen throws a hook but John blocks it.
John defending well as Vipunen loads up on a big left hand.
Vipunen has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
John buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
John misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
John throws a push kick but Vipunen slaps the foot to one side.
Nice defenses there by Vipunen.
Vipunen throws a quick counter kick to the body but John avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vipunen lands with a nice body kick.
John walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Vipunen looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Vipunen lands with an uppercut that bounces John off the cage and back into range.
Vipunen scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
John keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Vipunen.
Vipunen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Vipunen throws a low kick but John avoids it.
John moves forwards but Vipunen connects with a nice, crisp jab.
John uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
John ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vipunen moves away.
Nice defenses there by Vipunen.
Vipunen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of John's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
John has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Vipunen.
John feints and then cracks Vipunen's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Vipunen down.
John takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vipunen avoids the head kick by John.
A solid body kick from Vipunen.
John pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
John looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Vipunen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent John stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
John bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
John has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Vipunen finds it's way round the side to connect with John's head.
John throws a low kick, looking for Vipunen's leg but Vipunen calmly moves out of range.
John scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Vipunen doesn't seem bothered though.

Vipunen has closed the distance and engaged John in a clinch.
Vipunen lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Vipunen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That kick from John tenderised Vipunen's leg. Vipunen is trying to keep his angry face on.
John swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Vipunen shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
John looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A head kick from John lands but Vipunen takes it in his stride.
John lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
John throws a predictable looking body shot
and Vipunen counters with a nice uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vipunen sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Vipunen misses with a looping right.
Vipunen ducks under a wild hook from John.
Vipunen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
John has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Vipunen finds it's way round the side to connect with John's head.


John is rocked!
Vipunen flashes John a smile before throwing a beast of a right hand, straight down the pipe. John's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. John crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Vipunen punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Aapeli Vipunen!
Aapeli Vipunen decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
