The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Asser could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Asser looks to land a combination. Hilton sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Asser ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Lance Hilton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hilton shoots in for a double leg but Asser sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Asser tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hilton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Asser somewhat.

Asser fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hilton.
Hilton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Asser circles away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Asser shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hilton is trying to defend but Asser finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Asser seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hilton can do anything to dispel that myth.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Asser enables Hilton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Asser manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Asser manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hilton manages to get himself to full guard.

Hilton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Asser gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hilton throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Hilton has his foot on Asser's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Asser works his way back into a safe position though.

Hilton throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Asser escapes and throws Hilton's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Asser stands up.
Asser leaves Hilton with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Asser scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Klatten Asser.
I think Asser has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
