PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darius Dorsey (ranked 6851 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Callen (ranked 4858 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darius Dorsey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gary Callen!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dorsey shoots in for a takedown but Callen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Callen scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Callen frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Dorsey is controlling Callen's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Dorsey gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Callen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Dorsey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Callen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dorsey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dorsey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Callen can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Callen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Dorsey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dorsey closes the distance and clinches up with Callen, looking for a takedown. Dorsey pushes Callen against the cage but Callen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Callen throws a counter combo.
Callen misses with a head kick.

Gary Callen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Callen tries to score with a low kick but Dorsey moves his leg out of the way.
Dorsey appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Callen jumps guard but Dorsey turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Darius Dorsey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Callen.

Callen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Callen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Dorsey's efforts to push away.
Dorsey jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Callen walks away with a smile on his face. Dorsey gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Callen shoots for a takedown but Dorsey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Callen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Dorsey counters with a nice leg kick.

Dorsey clinches up with Callen and pushes him back against the cage.

Callen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Gary Callen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Dorsey has his foot on Callen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Callen works his way back into a safe position though.
Callen wants to control from the top but Dorsey keeps moving.

Gary Callen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Callen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
