PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carl Brooks (ranked 2790 p4p, 247 weight class) and Jonathan Binetti (ranked 4127 p4p, 331 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brooks might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eminem - Phenomenal. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathan Binetti!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks with a lazy takedown attempt
and Binetti counters with a left to the body.

Brooks shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Binetti is trying to defend but Brooks finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Binetti tries to kick Brooks off in order to stand up. Brooks Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Binetti tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brooks wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Brooks content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Brooks throws an elbow but Binetti slips to the side and avoids it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brooks in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Brooks advances to full mount.

Brooks unloads with some shots from mount but Binetti bucks and avoids them well.

Brooks has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Brooks landing strikes from the mount and Binetti is in trouble!
Brooks cracks Binetti with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Brooks takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Brooks looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brooks throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Brooks looking to finish Binetti with some ground and pound. This is bad for Binetti!
Brooks fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
We've been informed that Binetti has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Brooks cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Binetti sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Binetti has hold of Brooks's hands but Brooks slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.


Binetti is rocked!
Binetti is looking to control Brooks's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Binetti avoid being mounted?
Brooks drops an elbow to the side of Binetti's head.
Binetti is still in real trouble! Can Brooks finish him?
Brooks is looking to pass Binetti's guard but actually Binetti recovers to full guard.
Binetti seems to have recovered his senses.
Brooks slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Brooks decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Brooks is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Binetti wants to improve his position but Brooks is controlling well.

Brooks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Brooks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Binetti can do to turn this around?

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Brooks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Brooks stands and throws Binetti's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Binetti managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Brooks.

Binetti can't do much from the bottom here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Binetti tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brooks manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Binetti throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Brooks shoots in but Binetti avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Brooks looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Binetti is fending him off so far but Brooks persists. Nope, Binetti circles away and we're back to standing.

Binetti misses with a jab, cross combination.
Binetti pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Brooks back to the cage. Binetti follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Brooks scores with a takedown into Binetti's guard.
Binetti is wriggling around but Brooks manages to pass to half guard.
Binetti is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Brooks is taking a breather. Binetti says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Brooks working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Binetti defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Brooks.

Brooks shoots in but no luck this time.
Binetti gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Binetti avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Brooks is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Binetti.
Brooks misses with a takedown attempt - Binetti sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Brooks. That's going to take a lot out of him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Brooks connects with the punch.
Binetti uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Brooks.
Carl Brooks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brooks uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Binetti has time to react.
Brooks shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Binetti defends it nicely.
Binetti tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brooks manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Brooks misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Brooks takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Brooks will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brooks shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Binetti pinned against the cage. Binetti gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Binetti scores with a jab. Brooks acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Brooks moves out of range as Binetti throws a body kick.
Brooks drops down looking for a counter takedown but Binetti sprawls and moves away.
Nice shot lands for Binetti.
Jonathan Binetti seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fight stays on the outside here - Binetti looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Binetti feints a jab promting Brooks to slip. Binetti then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Brooks slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Brooks misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Binetti rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Brooks moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Brooks tries for a takedown but Binetti sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Brooks looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Binetti is fending him off so far but Brooks persists. Nope, Binetti circles away and we're back to standing.
Binetti fails in his attempt to clinch.
Binetti misses with a few strikes there.
Brooks moves out of range as Binetti throws a body kick.
Brooks drops down looking for a counter takedown but Binetti sprawls and moves away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brooks dives in for a single leg takedown but Binetti sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Brooks shoots in but no luck this time.
Binetti thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Brooks if he has to take too many more of those.
Binetti throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Brooks throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Danga de danga de dang - Binetti scores with a four punch combination!

Binetti gets a clinch.
I was talking to Brooks's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Binetti prevents a takedown attempt there.
Jonathan Binetti has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Binetti lands with a right to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonathan Binetti comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Brooks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Carl Brooks spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
