PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Renaldo Sargent (ranked 5493 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Danger (ranked 4735 p4p, 0 weight class). Christopher Danger will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Renaldo Sargent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Christopher Danger!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sargent paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Danger fails with the takedown.
Danger connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Danger shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Danger gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Sargent is looking to break free of the clinch but Danger has double underhooks.
Danger is working for takedown but Sargent is calmly controlling the position for now.
Renaldo Sargent has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christopher Danger.

Danger breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Danger shoots in and drives through. Sargent sprawls well.
Danger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sargent swivels and escapes.
Sargent thinks about countering with a head kick.

Sargent gets a clinch.
Sargent misses with a punch on the inside.
Danger is trying to break free.

Sargent keeps control of Danger as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sargent has had enough of the clinch but Danger keeps him there for the moment.
Danger presses Sargent against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

It looks like Renaldo Sargent has been cut.

Sargent's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A nice leg kick lands there from Sargent.

Sargent dodges an elbow strike from Danger.

Danger pulls guard successfully.
Sargent controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Sargent postures up in Danger's guard and throws a big left but Danger blocks it.
Sargent not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sargent accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sargent slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Sargent thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sargent really is a fat lump.
Danger misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sargent was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Sargent throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sargent throws a head kick that misses.
Sargent takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Danger is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sargent gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Danger looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Danger has Sargent pressed against the cage, preventing Sargent from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Sargent is trying to break free.
Danger missing with knees to the body.
Sargent has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Sargent gets control of Danger's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sargent will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sargent wants to sweep here but Danger controlling him for the moment.
Sargent wants to stand and escape but Danger is having none of it.
Sargent working a defensive guard here.
Sargent has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sargent looking for a guillotine here but Danger defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Renaldo Sargent will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Sargent shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Danger is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Sargent is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Danger doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sargent.

Danger on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Danger is looking to control Sargent's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Danger avoid being mounted?
Sargent takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Danger is trying to maintain the position but Sargent is very close to passing his half guard.
Danger might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sargent haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Sargent controlling the pace.
Sargent is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Danger can do to turn this around?
Danger wants to control but Sargent is keeping busy and won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sargent content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Danger is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sargent's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sargent's back!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sargent tries to reverse the position but Danger maintains control.
Renaldo Sargent overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sargent is looking to improve his position but Danger isn't that keen on the idea.

Danger goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sargent turns into him and now he's in Danger's guard.
Danger has momentary wrist control but Sargent slips an elbow through the middle.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Danger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close second round but I would say that Renaldo Sargent will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Danger clinches.
Sargent tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Danger manages to break the clinch.
Sargent throws a head kick but Danger moves out of range.
Danger changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Sargent fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Danger shoots in but no luck this time.
Sargent throws a lazy right hand but Danger sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sargent tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sargent is looking to land body kicks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Danger darts in looking for a takedown but Sargent gets double underhooks and turns Danger into the cage.
Danger throws a front kick that sends Sargent stumbling back into the cage.

Danger feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sargent working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Danger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Danger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sargent might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Danger wants to control from the top but Sargent keeps moving.

Danger postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Danger throws a strike but Sargent rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Danger has momentary wrist control but Sargent slips an elbow through the middle.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sargent's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sargent landing with the ground and pound.
Sargent connects with a couple of short punches.

Danger has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sargent can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Danger wants to get back to his feet but Sargent passes into half guard.

Sargent is working for a submission of some sort.
Sargent winds up and cracks Danger with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Danger wants to improve his position but Sargent is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Danger is looking to control Sargent's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Danger avoid being mounted?
Sargent with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sargent jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A shot to the body from Sargent misses
and Danger counters with a three punch combo that has Sargent backing up. Sargent nods at Danger to acknowledge the strikes.

Sargent looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Danger is trying to stand back up but Sargent is controlling him
Christopher Danger has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Renaldo Sargent is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sargent not doing much here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Renaldo Sargent.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sargent, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
