PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donald Trumpet (ranked 2894 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oleg Liguy (ranked 3774 p4p, 399 weight class). Trumpet comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donald Trumpet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oleg Liguy!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Liguy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Liguy landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Liguy wants to control but Trumpet is keeping him busy.
Liguy working the ground and pound but Trumpet is defending the strikes.
Trumpet is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Heavy Metal, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Liguy tries to move into full mount but can't pass Trumpet's legs.
Trumpet is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Liguy off and has taken his back!
Trumpet keeps control of the position easily here as Liguy tries to buck him off.
Trumpet will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Trumpet just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Liguy is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Liguy trying to control the hands but Trumpet breaks the grip.
Trumpet keeps control of the position as Liguy tries to break free.
Trumpet has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Liguy's body.
Trumpet's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Liguy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Trumpet but Trumpet pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Trumpet misses with a two punch combination.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Liguy is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Trumpet is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Liguy can do to turn this around?
Trumpet ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
A punch lands to the side of Liguy 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Trumpet cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Liguy avoids the body shot from Trumpet.
Liguy feints the counter takedown.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Trumpet enables Liguy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Trumpet manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Liguy working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Trumpet manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Liguy manages to get himself to full guard.

Trumpet tries to stand but Liguy is controlling from the bottom.
Trumpet slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Liguy has his hands on Trumpet's head, controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Liguy has a closed guard, preventing Trumpet from standing up.
Trumpet passes into half guard.
Trumpet is taking a breather. Liguy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Trumpet is pressing down on Liguy's thigh, looking to free his foot. Liguy is holding on for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Liguy fails with the takedown
and Trumpet counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Donald Trumpet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oleg Liguy.
Liguy with a lazy takedown attempt
and Trumpet counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Liguy dives in for a single leg takedown but Trumpet sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Trumpet is looking to counter punch.

Liguy drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Liguy is fighting to break Trumpet's control of his arms but Trumpet is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Liguy working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Trumpet pulls Liguy in close to his closed guard and prevents Liguy from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Trumpet is on top in guard.

Trumpet is stalling in the full guard.
Trumpet tries to free his leg and advance position but Liguy is retaining full guard.
Donald Trumpet overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Trumpet is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Liguy keeping full guard, as Trumpet tries to pass.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Trumpet's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Trumpet jabs Liguy right on the nose. Liguy blinks but takes it well.
Trumpet slaps away a takedown attempt from Liguy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Liguy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Trumpet throws out the jab.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Liguy is defended easily by Trumpet.
Trumpet swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Liguy misses with a hook
and Trumpet counters with a left to the body.
Trumpet is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Liguy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Trumpet counters with a straight right hand.
Donald Trumpet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oleg Liguy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trumpet closes the distance and lands a one-two.

and Trumpet counters with a big right hand! Oh Liguy is in trouble here! Trumpet follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

A less than humble Donald Trumpet misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
