PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kari Halifax (ranked 23058 p4p, 600 weight class) and Yves Trudeau (ranked 6620 p4p, 535 weight class). Yves Trudeau told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halifax tries to clinch up
and Trudeau counters with a one-two to the body.

Halifax gets a clinch.

Trudeau trying to control the position but instead, Halifax has worked for underhooks and has pushed Trudeau into the cage.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Yves Trudeau.
Trudeau bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Halifax 's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halifax walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

A looping hook to the body misses from Trudeau. Halifax does a little dance to reset his feet.
A little feinted left hand from Halifax on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Trudeau circles away from the clinch attempt.
Trudeau throws a counter combo.
Both fighters circling a little - Trudeau finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Halifax has closed the distance and engaged Trudeau in a clinch.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Trudeau has had enough of the clinch but Halifax keeps him there for the moment.

Trudeau has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Halifax .
Trudeau wants to stall.

Trudeau throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Trudeau connects with a good right hand that stumbles Halifax . Halifax circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Halifax pivots, looking for a leg kick but Trudeau is out of range and Halifax settles back down.

Trudeau goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Halifax connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Trudeau's hands.

Halifax is rocked!

Halifax forces Trudeau back against the cage and clinches.
Oh Halifax is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Halifax as Trudeau tries to tie him up.
Halifax seems to have got his legs back now.
Halifax struggles to land a body shot inside as Trudeau controls his hands.
Halifax tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Trudeau's elbow.

Trudeau breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Trudeau fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Halifax manages to avoid it.

Halifax is looking to clinch.
Trudeau throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Halifax stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Trudeau moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Trudeau moves out of range as Halifax strikes.
Trudeau lands a nice shot that snaps Halifax 's head back.
Trudeau takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The fighters circling - Halifax throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Trudeau misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Trudeau throws a nice looking combination but Halifax bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Halifax tries to bum rush Trudeau with a series of wild strikes but Trudeau uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Trudeau cracks Halifax with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Halifax tries to close the distance and clinch but Trudeau swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Trudeau plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Halifax lands a glancing blow to the side of Trudeau's head.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Trudeau throws a head kick that Halifax semi-blocks.
Nice uppercut lands for Halifax . That snapped Trudeau's head back.
Halifax takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Trudeau misses with a low kick.
An attempted straight right counter from Halifax misses the target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Halifax throws a jab but it's blocked by Trudeau.

Trudeau lands a big head kick that sends Halifax tumbling to the mat! Trudeau takes a step backwards and waves Halifax back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Trudeau connects with a right that clearly hurt Halifax . He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Trudeau proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Halifax collapses and taps out under the pressure!
