Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary Goodridge (ranked 3794 p4p, 344 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 4847 p4p, 390 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Goodridge scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Goodridge throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Goodridge is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Goodridge.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Goodridge seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith controls Goodridge momentarily but Goodridge frees himself.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.

Smith wants to control from the top but Goodridge keeps moving.

Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Goodridge is retaining full guard.

Goodridge working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith wants to control from the top but Goodridge keeps moving.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Goodridge bucks up and tries to throw Smith off but instead Smith has got his back!

Smith is persistently looking for the submission but Goodridge is defending it well.
Goodridge tries to escape the position.
A lull in the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Smith doesn't have the hooks in and Goodridge manages to turn into his guard.

Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Goodridge is proving a slippery customer.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Goodridge's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Goodridge manages to get himself to full guard.

Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Goodridge is proving hard to escape from.

Goodridge is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.
Smith looking to pass the guard.

Smith advances to half guard.
Smith wants to take a breather but Goodridge is having none of it.
Goodridge won't allow Smith to pass to mount.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Goodridge keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Goodridge is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Goodridge has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Goodridge's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Goodridge keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Goodridge misses with a few strikes there.
Goodridge throws a right and a left that Smith avoids nicely.

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Goodridge tries to kick Smith off in order to stand up. Smith Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Smith throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Goodridge works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Goodridge's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to John Smith.
I think Smith has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
