PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodimus Prime (ranked 4163 p4p, 142 weight class) and Eddy Soprano (ranked 3725 p4p, 131 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rodimus Prime!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddy Soprano!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Prime closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Soprano quickly recovers to half guard.
Prime trying to control the action but Soprano is working from the bottom.
Soprano is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Soprano manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Soprano keeping moving, preventing Prime from controlling successfully.

Soprano looking for a guillotine here but Prime defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soprano is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Prime trying to control the position from guard on top but Soprano is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Soprano is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Prime defends well.
Soprano wants to sweep but no luck.
Prime is fighting to break Soprano's control of his arms but Soprano is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Prime might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Soprano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Our spies down at at Mahogany Temple inform us that Soprano has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soprano looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Prime passes into side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Prime in side control, throwing shots but Soprano defends.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Eddy Soprano will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Prime just misses with a punch to the body.
Soprano is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Soprano changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Prime tries to avoid it but Soprano manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Prime to the ground. Prime escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Soprano has a takedown stuffed.

Prime darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Prime trying to control but Soprano is having none of it.
Soprano is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Soprano is still trying to improve position.
Prime throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Prime is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Soprano can do to turn this around?
Prime can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Soprano is looking to escape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Prime swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Soprano is now in Prime's guard. A big mistake from Prime there, giving up the dominant position!
Prime has his hands on Soprano's head, controlling the position.
Prime looking to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Prime is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Soprano is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Soprano looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Prime is trying to control but can't.
Prime gets back to full guard.
Soprano tries to free his leg and advance position but Prime is retaining full guard.
Soprano postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soprano stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prime swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Soprano passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Prime regains half guard.
Soprano is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Prime is defending against the submission attempts here by Soprano.
Soprano is nestled in close to Prime, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Soprano is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Soprano is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Prime has managed to free his arm - good work.
Prime has hold of Soprano's hands but Soprano slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Prime wants to control but Soprano is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Prime wants to get back to full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Prime tries to clinch but Soprano is having none of it.

Soprano closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Prime tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Prime trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Prime is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Soprano is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Prime is defending well though. Soprano let's go of the attempt for now.

Soprano is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Prime turns into Soprano and is now in his guard.
Soprano has a closed guard, preventing Prime from standing up.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Soprano shoots for a takedown but Prime saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Prime will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Prime tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rodimus Prime has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddy Soprano.
Soprano will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rodimus Prime seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Prime is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Soprano pulls his head out easily.

Soprano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Prime keeps working.
Prime looks like he's trying to stand up.

I would just about give that final round to Eddy Soprano.
