PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luss Rittle (ranked 3530 p4p, 331 weight class) and Tom Peter (ranked 6061 p4p, 431 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luss Rittle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tom Peter!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peter scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rittle doesn't seem bothered though.

Peter closes the distance and pushes Rittle back into the cage.
Peter tries for a takedown but Rittle manages to get underhooks.
Rittle tries to pull guard but Peter won't allow it.

Peter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Peter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rittle pinned against the cage. Rittle gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Peter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rittle tries to avoid it but Peter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rittle to the ground. Rittle escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Luss Rittle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Peter.
Rittle fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rittle shoots in for a double leg but Peter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Peter is looking for the big counter here.

Peter clinches.
Peter lands a knee to the body.
A knee to the head by Peter.

Peter is trying to trip Rittle. He has hold of a leg but Rittle is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Peter persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Rittle is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Rittle wants to get back to his feet but Peter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Peter wants to pass the guard but Rittle is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peter throws a big right hand that misses.

Peter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
No joy there for Peter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rittle stuffs the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rittle tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Peter paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Peter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rittle swivels and escapes.
Rittle pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rittle takes a swing at Peter's ribcage but misses.
Rittle wants to clinch.
Peter swats away the attempt to clinch by Rittle.
Rittle avoids the head kick by Peter.

Peter drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rittle wants to get back to his feet but Peter passes into half guard.
Rittle is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.


Peter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Peter seems to be looking for submissions.
Peter stalling.
Rittle tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Peter has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rittle is trying desperately to improve position.
Rittle wants to control but Peter is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rittle holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Peter tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Peter drives through and clinches with Rittle against the cage.
Peter gets underhooks to prevent Rittle's takedown attempt.
Peter lands a damaging elbow.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Peter breaks from the clinch.
Peter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rittle tries to avoid it but Peter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rittle to the ground. Rittle escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rittle seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Rittle can't break the clinch.
Peter prevents a takedown attempt there.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Rittle tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Our sources have told us that Rittle has been working on his elbows in the gym.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luss Rittle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A nice right hand lands inside from Peter.

Peter successfully pulls guard.
Peter seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Let's hope that Peter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Peter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rittle manages to get himself to full guard.

Peter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rittle is trying to keep Peter in close.
Peter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Peter loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Peter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Peter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rittle, up you get!
Rittle avoids a punch combination nicely.
Peter throws a head kick that Rittle semi-blocks.
Rittle moves forwards but Peter connects with a nice, crisp jab.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rittle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rittle drives through with a takedown into Peter's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Peter has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Rittle off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Peter moves into the clinch.
Rittle jumps guard but Peter stands there with Rittle around his waist. Rittle gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Peter manages to pull guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peter wants to sweep but no luck.
Peter pulls Rittle in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Peter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Rittle goes for a double leg but Peter avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Peter continues to drive forward.

Peter closes the distance and pushes Rittle back into the cage.
Peter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rittle pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Peter jumps into guard, dragging Rittle to the mat.
Rittle would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Rittle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Peter is on top in guard.

Peter slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peter is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rittle will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Rittle defending against the ground and pound.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Peter sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Rittle is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Peter in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Peter gets to mount! Rittle was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Peter working for a submission but Rittle is keeping him at bay.
Rittle is trying to escape the mount but Peter keeps good control and instead manages to take Rittle's back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Peter gets his hands free as Rittle looks to control.

Tom Peter has got the better of the ground game so far.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Peter.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Peter controlling the positon.

Rittle tries to roll but Peter sticks to his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tom Peter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Peter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
