Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Otto Downs (ranked 24789 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Kent (ranked 24784 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kent's choice of entrance music: Ready for war. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Otto Downs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Kent!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Downs looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kent! But no joy.
A head kick by Kent misses

and Downs counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Downs.
Kent is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Let's hope that Kent has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kent is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Downs working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kent's head.
Downs throws a big right hand that misses.
Kent not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kent has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Downs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kent wants to control the position but Downs says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Kent has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Downs is working away from the top position though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kent can do anything to dispel that myth.
Downs missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Kent wants to improve his position but Downs is controlling well.
Downs wants to stand up but Kent is controlling the position.

Downs is working for a kimura but Kent is defending it quite comfortably.

Kent kicks Downs off and gets back to his feet.

Downs looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kent is fending him off so far but Downs persists. Nope, Kent circles away and we're back to standing.

Downs tries to sprawl but Kent drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Kent controlling the action here.
Kent is looking to advance position but Downs won't allow it.
Downs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kent is looking for a kimura but Downs is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kent to get the leverage.

Kent postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Downs to stand up.

Downs instigates a clinch.
Kent is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Otto Downs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Downs slows down the pace here.
Kent taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A close round but Alex Kent will probably get the nod.
That's time! Downs's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kent is looking to slow Downs down with leg kicks.
Downs has his takedown stuffed
and Kent counters with a stiff right hand.
Kent looks to land a body kick but Downs moved away.

Downs tries to keep at a distance but Kent has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kent lands a takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kent wants to control from the top but Downs keeps moving.
Downs will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kent not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kent's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Downs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kent decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Downs, up you get!

Kent closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kent lands in his opponent's guard.

Kent must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kent postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Downs is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kent, into his guard.

Downs is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kent has managed to free his arm - good work.
Downs wants to control but Kent is keeping him busy.

Kent trying to control but Downs postures up.
Alex Kent has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kent is controlling Downs's trapped leg to prevent Downs from advancing to side control.
Kent manages to get to full guard.
Downs stopping the sweep attempt from Kent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Downs with a flurry of punches that miss.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kent wants to stand but Downs is controlling the position.

Kent escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Downs gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kent is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Downs postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kent is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Downs, into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Kent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Kent escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Downs tries for a takedown but Kent circles away easily
and Kent counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kent rushes Downs and presses him up against the cage.

Kent is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Downs can't fight it off and eventually Kent manages to take the fight to the floor. Downs looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Downs is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Kent dives into side control.
Kent has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kent content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Kent decides to stand up, so the ref orders Downs to his feet.
Downs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kent tries to avoid it but Downs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kent to the ground. Kent escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Downs gets caught napping as Kent dives in and scores a takedown. Downs manages to retain guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kent trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kent trying to control the position from guard on top but Downs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Downs wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kent manages to pass to side control.

Kent decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Kent darts in and clinches Downs up against the cage.
Downs jumps guard but Kent turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Otto Downs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Downs tries to break free but Kent pushes him back against the cage.
Kent controlling the action here for a moment.
A frustrated look appears on Downs's face as he tries to break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Downs looking to slow down the pace here.

Kent breaks the clinch.

Kent darts in and clinches Downs up against the cage.

Kent manages to pull guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kent holds on and takes a little breather.
Downs throwing strikes but missing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kent is on top in guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Kent comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kent has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Alex Kent misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
