PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oleg Vinysha (ranked 4242 p4p, 367 weight class) and Gabriel De Souza (ranked 6124 p4p, 428 weight class). Gabriel De Souza is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oleg Vinysha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel De Souza!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vinysha is defended easily by De Souza.
De Souza throws out a counter right but Vinysha avoids it with no problem.

De Souza fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vinysha, pushing him back against the cage.

Vinysha lands a takedown into guard.
De Souza utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
De Souza working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Vinysha.
Vinysha content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vinysha connects with a couple of short punches.
Vinysha working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Vinysha has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vinysha drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but De Souza manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vinysha has De Souza in his guard.

De Souza wants to control from the top but Vinysha keeps moving.
De Souza wants to pass the guard but Vinysha is keeping the position.

De Souza must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
De Souza pushes down on Vinysha's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are battling for position here. Vinysha manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
De Souza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vinysha swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vinysha avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Vinysha is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
De Souza throws a big right hand that misses.
De Souza wants to control from the top but Vinysha keeps moving.

Vinysha lands with a heel strike from the guard.
Vinysha will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
De Souza fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Vinysha takes one to the side of the head.
De Souza fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
No luck for De Souza with that takedown attempt.
De Souza connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Vinysha momentarily.
Vinysha fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Vinysha bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Vinysha is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. De Souza knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Vinysha is working De Souza over with some ground and pound from side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vinysha looks up at the clock and then as De Souza takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Vinysha smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That was a close round but I would say that Oleg Vinysha will probably get the nod.
That's time! Vinysha's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

De Souza wants to break free but Vinysha has control.

De Souza gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vinysha.
De Souza tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Vinysha works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Vinysha lands a couple of elbows.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vinysha lands a nice short elbow.
Vinysha works his foot free and advances to mount.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Vinysha cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Vinysha moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, De Souza has worked his arm free - good work by De Souza!

Vinysha wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by De Souza, who protects the arm well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
De Souza is looking for a sweep.
Vinysha cracks De Souza with a big right hand but De Souza just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Vinysha is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, De Souza has escaped the position, nice work there.
Oleg Vinysha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vinysha lands an elbow.
De Souza is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Vinysha is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vinysha is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. De Souza is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. De Souza flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Vinysha anticipates the leg and manages to get behind De Souza and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Vinysha slips an arm under De Souza chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Vinysha has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Vinysha is squeezing on De Souza like an anaconda would it's prey. De Souza fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Oleg Vinysha!
