Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Gomes (ranked 1298 p4p, 166 weight class) and Altintop Palonesess (ranked 2023 p4p, 239 weight class). Gomes's entrance music is AC/DC - Thunderstruck . A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palonesess is looking to clinch but Gomes is avoiding it.
Palonesess misses with a takedown attempt - Gomes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Palonesess darts in and clinches Gomes up against the cage.
Gomes has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Palonesess after a bit of a struggle.
Gomes is working for takedown but Palonesess is calmly controlling the position for now.

Gomes has hold of one of Palonesess's legs. Palonesess is fighting the takedown attempt but Gomes gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palonesess pulls Gomes in close to prevent any damage.

Gomes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Palonesess looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Palonesess looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Palonesess!

Gomes is looking for a sweep.

Palonesess wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gomes, who protects the arm well.
Gomes's coaches at UnderGround Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Palonesess is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Gomes will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Gomes is looking to improve his position.
Palonesess tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gomes.
Palonesess stalling away here and it's allowed Gomes to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Palonesess slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Palonesess works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gomes is refusing to be controlled, as Palonesess sits in half guard.
Gomes tries to roll over but Palonesess keeps him under control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Palonesess has Gomes up against the cage in a clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gomes is working for takedown but Palonesess is calmly controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Palonesess doesn't manage to clinch there - Gomes circles away.
Gomes half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Gomes misses with a takedown attempt - Palonesess sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Palonesess tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gomes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Palonesess somewhat.
Gomes feinted with a counter takedown.
Palonesess darts in looking for a takedown but Gomes gets double underhooks and turns Palonesess into the cage.
Palonesess fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gomes avoids it really well and circles away.
Gomes changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
David Gomes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Altintop Palonesess.

Gomes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Palonesess but Palonesess pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Palonesess looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gomes is fending him off so far but Palonesess persists. Nope, Gomes circles away and we're back to standing.

Gomes gets caught napping as Palonesess dives in and scores a takedown. Gomes manages to retain guard.

Palonesess stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Gomes has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Palonesess manages to get his head free but now Gomes has transitioned to an armbar! Palonesess grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Gomes! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
