PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cortez Moses (ranked 6515 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bean Bags (ranked 4756 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cortez Moses!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bean Bags!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bags has taken the fight to the clinch.
Moses on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Bags tries to land knees in the clinch but Moses avoids the damage to the body.

Bags manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Moses is stalling in the full guard.
Moses looking to sit in guard and control but Bags gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bags looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bags drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Moses dives on top into guard.


Bags working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Moses doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Moses manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bags utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moses missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Moses is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Bags wants to stand but Moses is controlling the position.
Bags is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Moses shoots for a takedown but Bags saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Moses shoots in but no luck this time.
Bags drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Moses defends it well.

Bags misses with a few strikes there.

Bags has Moses up against the cage in a clinch.

Bags breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Moses tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bags paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bags darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bags lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bags tries to pass to full mount but Moses defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bags wants to advance to full mount but Moses doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bags not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bags wanted to stand there but Moses had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bean Bags dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Moses fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bags avoids it really well and circles away.

Bags darts in and clinches Moses up against the cage.

Bags has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Moses regains guard immediately.
Bags loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moses wants to improve his position but instead Bags has moved into half guard.
Moses is staying active underneath Bags, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Bags uses his free foot to push down on Moses's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Moses.
Bean Bags has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bags trying to control but Moses is having none of it.
Moses wants to control but Bags is having none of it.
Bags prevents Moses from getting the reversal.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bags can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Moses is looking to escape.
Bags controlling from mount.
Moses keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bags goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Moses is on top in guard.
Moses is working Bags over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Bags wants to stand up but Moses is controlling him.
Moses looking to sit in guard and control but Bags gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bags not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bags pushes down on Moses's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bags trying to control from half guard but Moses is working away.

Bean Bags showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Bags ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Moses moves away.

Bags closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bags seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Bags passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Moses!
Bags looking to control but Moses is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Bags has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bags tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Bags trying to control but Moses is having none of it.
Bags lands a big shot there that rocks Moses but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Moses gets back to half guard.
Bags wants to pass the guard but Moses is defending well.
Bags scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bags trying to control the action but Moses is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bags tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Bags trying to control from Moses's half guard. Moses has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Bags scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Moses could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bags scoring with some ground and pound.
Bags throwing strikes but missing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Moses wants to get back to his feet but Bags is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bags shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Moses tries to roll over but Bags keeps him under control.
Well, if Bags is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Bean Bags comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bags has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
