Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeromy Whitehead!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luan Cesar!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cesar feints and then cracks Whitehead's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Whitehead down.

Cesar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Whitehead pushes Cesar off and gets back to his feet.
Cesar chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Cesar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Whitehead tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cesar is in Whitehead's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cesar wants to stand but Whitehead is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cesar controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Whitehead trying to keep a closed guard but Cesar is proving a slippery customer.

Cesar forces his way into half guard.
Cesar not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Whitehead has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cesar is working away from the top position though.

Cesar is working for an americana but Whitehead has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Cesar was thinking about the submission.
Whitehead wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Whitehead kicks Cesar off and gets to his feet.
Whitehead misses with a looping left.
Cesar throws a leg kick but Whitehead sees it coming and moves out of range.

Whitehead throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cesar was covering up waiting for the punch and Whitehead finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitehead throws a strike but Cesar rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Cesar advances position into side control!
Whitehead is not content to let Cesar control the position.
Cesar laying and praying for a moment but Whitehead takes advantage and regains half guard.
Cesar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cesar is trying to control. Whitehead wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Whitehead manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Cesar keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Cesar works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Whitehead pushes Cesar off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Whitehead gets caught napping as Cesar dives in and scores a takedown. Whitehead manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jeromy Whitehead will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Cesar has Whitehead up against the cage in a clinch.
Cesar makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Cesar prevents Whitehead from breaking the clinch.
Whitehead wants to get back to striking at distance but Cesar won't allow it.

Cesar displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Whitehead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Whitehead manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Cesar keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Cesar has Whitehead pressed against the cage, preventing Whitehead from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Whitehead is trying to break free.
Whitehead really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cesar forces his way into half guard.
Whitehead has his hands clasped together around Cesar's back. He's all about the action.
Cesar blocks the strikes from Whitehead.

Cesar is keen to just control but Whitehead is a slippery customer.

Cesar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Whitehead defends it well.
Whitehead is refusing to be controlled, as Cesar sits in half guard.
Cesar throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Whitehead to regain full guard.
Cesar throws a big right hand that misses.

Cesar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whitehead swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Whitehead wants to get back to his feet but Cesar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cesar throws a sloppy head kick and Whitehead moves out of range easily.

Cesar shoots in and gets a takedown into Whitehead's guard.

Cesar gets to his feet. Whitehead looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Cesar throws a wild body kick that Whitehead sees coming a mile off.
Whitehead tries to counter by clinching up but Cesar breaks away and moves out of range.

Cesar shoots in and gets a takedown into Whitehead's guard.
Cesar is breathing heavily.
Cesar controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Whitehead is looking to stand up but Cesar isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cesar trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitehead is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luan Cesar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Cesar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Still in half guard, Cesar seems content to control.

Cesar is stalling here. Whitehead is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Cesar seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Whitehead has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Cesar is looking for a sweep.
Cesar is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Cesar tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Cesar is looking to regain half guard here but Whitehead keeps moving and retains side control.
Whitehead cracks Cesar with a big elbow.

You can see the frustration on Cesar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Whitehead lands a decent elbow from side control.
Cesar is trying to work for a sweep but Whitehead has mounted him!
Cesar keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cesar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Whitehead looking to finish Cesar with some ground and pound. This is bad for Cesar!

Whitehead looking for a guillotine from mount but Cesar is having none of it.

Cesar is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.
Whitehead with a couple of short strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Whitehead scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Whitehead throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Cesar tries to hold on but Whitehead postures up.
Cesar tries to reverse the position but Whitehead maintains control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Whitehead scoring with strikes but Cesar is staying in there.
Whitehead pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeromy Whitehead showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Whitehead has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
