PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charley Hanagan (ranked 144 p4p, 24 weight class) and Three Dog (ranked 85 p4p, 15 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hanagan might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Guilty Until Proven Innocent. Dog is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Fallout. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charley Hanagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 18 - 0, fighting out of New York, Three Dog!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanagan connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Hanagan missing with a left hand there. Dog was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hanagan lands a nice hook to Dog's body. Dog takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Hanagan throws a sloppy body shot
enabling Dog to counter with a crisp jab.

Dog misses with a low kick as Hanagan jumps back.
We've been hearing reports that Hanagan has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Dog takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hanagan closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hanagan misses with a takedown attempt - Dog sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hanagan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dog to the mat! Dog manages to get full guard.

Dog kicks Hanagan off and gets to his feet.
Dog takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Dog throws a low kick but Hanagan moves out of range easily.
An inside leg kick from Dog misses.

Hanagan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dog to the mat! Dog manages to get full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dog looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hanagan wants to pass the guard but Dog is keeping the position.
Hanagan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hanagan lands a couple of elbows.
Dog controls Hanagan momentarily but Hanagan frees himself.

Hanagan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Dog is trying to control Hanagan's posture but Hanagan avoids it.
Hanagan creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Hanagan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hanagan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Dog has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hanagan is working away from the top position though.

Hanagan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

You get the feeling that Dog really doesn't like being in this position too much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hanagan moves away from the strike by Dog.
Hanagan lands with a nice body punch.

Hanagan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dog looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Hanagan connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Dog some visible discomfort.
Dog manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hanagan's best efforts.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dog is trying to control but can't.

Hanagan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hanagan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dog is just riding it out for now. Hanagan eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hanagan thows a huge punch but Dog dodges it nicely.

Hanagan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hanagan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Dog is looking for a sweep. Hanagan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dog reaches up to try and control the position but Hanagan seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Dog rolls and tries to escape and now Hanagan has his back!

Hanagan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dog manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Hanagan fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It seemed like Dog was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Hanagan looks to land a left hand but Dog moved out of range nicely.
Hanagan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dog moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hanagan shoots in and drives through. Dog sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charley Hanagan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dog cracks Hanagan with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Hanagan looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Dog finish him?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hanagan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dog utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dog is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Hanagan connects with a couple of short punches.
Hanagan seems to have got his legs back now.
Hanagan cracks Dog with a solid left hand.
Hanagan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hanagan stands and throws Dog's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Dog is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dog takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Dog is defending against the submission attempts here by Hanagan.
Hanagan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dog knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Charley Hanagan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Charley Hanagan.
Well Hanagan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
