Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Haze (ranked 1148 p4p, 119 weight class) and Bronson Hughes (ranked 1152 p4p, 120 weight class). Hughes has chosen Slam - By: Onyx as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 20 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerry Haze!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bronson Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes misses with a hook.
Haze listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Haze closes the distance and clinches.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Haze.
Hughes blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Hughes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hughes is trying to get an arm triangle but Haze is defending well.
Haze takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Haze is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hughes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Haze's coaches at Smash and Twist have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Haze is looking to control Hughes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Haze avoid being mounted?

Hughes felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hughes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Haze is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hughes is not content to let Haze control the position.
Haze looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hughes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hughes wants to control but Haze is keeping busy and won't allow it.

It looked like Haze wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Haze feints and then cracks Hughes's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hughes down.

Hughes throws a lazy right hand but Haze sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Haze darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Haze misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hughes shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Haze bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Haze tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hughes was well out of range. Poor timing from Haze.

Haze tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hughes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Haze somewhat.

Haze connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hughes's hands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hughes goes for a double leg but Haze avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Haze continues to drive forward.

Haze keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hughes's efforts to push away.

Haze goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Hughes steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Haze.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Haze lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hughes has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hughes and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Hughes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hughes might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Haze tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hughes defends well and Haze ends up having to push Hughes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hughes thuds his right hand into Haze's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jerry Haze.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Haze, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
